Projection TV out of alignment - any way to correct this?

It’s one of those projection TV’s that is all enclosed in a box. Three “color guns” shine straight up, bounce off a mirror at a 45° angle which then gets projected to the inside of the screen.

There is a way to calibrate the 3 color guns using the remote and using the “Digital Array” function. The trouble is the alignment is so bad that the color guns don’t even come close to converging. I have taken the back off the TV (as I’m sure most Dopers would do), but this yielded no results.

Anyone know of any way to fix this or has the TV has reached the “end of the line”?

There is probably a mechanical adjustment for each CRT, to get the tubes in rough alignment, and then you can use the digital alignment to fine-tune. Speaking from experience, it can be an exasperating procedure to get CRT projection systems converged. I would call around and see if there are any TV repair companies who will do this for a reasonable price in your area.

So it is a mechanical adjustment?
I was hoping it would be.
In this “digital age”, I thought it might require a new circuit board. To make a rough analogy, when you adjust a printer, there’s no “light / dark” button. No, you go to Control Panel, Settings, …

Well, it depends on the set.
There are physical adjustments to get the three tubes close to converged. Usually, you use a cross or crosshatch pattern to help align them. After that, there are either vast numbers of trimpot adjustments (old style) or digital adjustments (menu driven, new style) to get them into final convergence. In the old, trimpot sets, one setting usually interacted with the others, so it could take hours of iteration to get the projector aligned as good as possible.
