How DID Casanova escape from prison?

I did a search on Casanova and came up with this:

Did anyone actually find out how he escaped? I have read all the links provided and now I really want to know.

Cake with a file in it.

Ya know, I’m glad this came up again, because the answer was really funny.

He walked out the front door. Right past the guards.

He had the assistance of a priest who had been visiting him regularly. The priest distracted the guards, and Casanova walked right out the front door. Both the priest and the guards were punished for the escape and subsequently served prison time.

It took a lot of searching, but in the end, my curiousity got the better of me and I did find the answer. However, I was too irritated by dippymonger to post it at the time.

Of course, now I no longer have the link, nor can I find it easily.

I am posting from work now, I’ll check at home in the morning. I may have it saved in Word as part of a very snippy answer which was, as I noted, never posted.

I’m not really sure why it’s so hard to find on the net. It seems like you always see it referred to as “death-defying” and “daring”, largely because it was so very bold.
