How did my neighbor's songs appear on my iTunes?

Yes, I have a wireless router. But, is the fact that his library appeared on my PC a consequence of iTunes 9 or do I have a security problem? How would I know?

Your Itunes simply went out across your network and collected the libraries of all the computers on your network.

Your neighbor is apparantly using your network.

Not necessarily.
It just means that he is on your local subnet. I’ve seen this happen with Cox cable before.

I guess that is possible, but if she is using a router I would think that iTunes would only look at the 192.168.0.X subnet or whatever scheme her router used.

The wireless router would trump the local subnet of the cable modem. Itunes may see two computers hooked up to two cable modems on the same ISP router as being on the same network, but the router puts the user’s subnet one level deeper than the cable mode. - unless the wireless router is just being used as a wireless access point without it’s own subnet.

It’s sure easy to find out - just turn on WPA or filter by MAC address and see if the problem goes away.
