I don’t remember setting that up. I’m the sort of person who always clicks NO on pop-ups, unless I’m expecting them.
Did Skype do this? Did my SO think he’d be helpful and do it for me? Is this now an automatic function of the board?
Who should I be outraged at?

I have a Skype account myself, but (so far as I can see) there is no linkage between it and my account or postings on the Dope.
Yup. I also noticed it earlier on one of Bear Nenno’s posts. I’ve also noticed that there are other messaging options listed in the same place on some people’s posts. I’d hazard a guess that it would only be active on Members’ accounts, since “Guests” don’t have things like location and post counts listed. It seems like a similar thing.

I don’t see it on your post, aruvqan, but there is a little flower with one red petal (MSN? I remember this vaguely from long ago). There have to be settings in our profiles: I’m on Skype and AIM, but they don’t show in my posts.
In Skype, under Options >> Privacy, disable ‘Allow my online status to be shown on the web’, ‘Accept Skype browser cookies’, and ‘Allow Microsoft targeted ads, including use of Skype profile age and gender’. I don’t know which one(s) make the Skype links go away, but I don’t want any of them.
