I was reading this thread,
and I noticed that where most people’s posts show their location and post count (under the Join Date), his (her?) says “send a message via Skype to [username]”.
Has anyone else seen that behavior?
When I hover over that, I see a standard SDMB link:

That’s nothing new, and it is a feature of the SDMB.
If you go under your user control panel (the User CP link on the upper left-ish part of the screen), click on Edit Your Details under Your Profile on the left, the second section on that page has things like your custom title (if you have one), date of birth, home page, and then at the bottom of that section there’s a bit for Instant Messaging. This has options for ICQ Number, AIM Screen Name, MSN Messenger Handle, Yahoo Messenger Handle, and Skype Name. If you actually put something into those fields, then the link with the symbol for which type of messaging (ICQ, AIM, MSN, Yahoo, or Skype) will appear on your profile, under contact info, and will also appear on posts, exactly where you’ve seen it.
Mine, for example, has my yahoo messenger ID, which I put in there when I registered back in 2001. I probably haven’t actually had yahoo messenger installed on a computer anywhere in the last decade or so but I’ve never bothered to take it off of my profile.
ETA: Most of them have icons, but I just entered a fake name under skype on my profile and it also showed up as a link.
