I’m pretty active here but was given the heads-up on FB from another Old Doper.
It’s nice to see all the old usernames popping up to pay tribute. Maybe a few of them will stick around for a while.
I only very rarely stop in here these days.
However, I still “see” a shitload of Old Dopers regularly on Livejournal and on facebook (I am also lucky enough to see some of them in real life on a regular basis, despite living far apart). It was a livejournal post from Geobabe that alerted me to the news.
I decided to come contribute to the thread when I heard on facebook that there were a number of old timers coming back to do the same.
Ah ha! Turns out my Notifications on that page were set so that my newsfeeds shows me posts there from “Friends only”. That’s why I forgot about the page. Fixed it!

I heard about Opal’s death through a trivia game I play with some Fathomites. I’d pretty much dropped out of the whole messageboard thing last year, but this made me try to get on Fathom to see what was there. Lots of connection problems there, so I logged onto the Giraffe Board to see if they had anything, which then led me here.
I just learned about it in this thread, just now. :sad:
That’s pretty much the trail that led me here as well.
I had gotten a call from my sister, Anita Vacation, who was pretty close friends with Opal, so Opal’s husband had called her to let her know. Then my husband started the thread, and I posted a link on Facebook, since I have a ton of friends from here on there. I realized I hadn’t even been to the boards in several years (and my next-to-last prior post was in the thread announcing that danceswithcats had died 
).
You’ve always been one of my faves. FWIW I had intended to have my last post be the dungeon thread and to basically bail on this place because I don’t fit here. Just happened to be weaning myself while lurking when I saw the Bye Opal thread. Popping in now to contribute to her Bye thread, then I’m back off the skag–Gonna do it right this time. Gonna get it sorted out, get off it for good.
Nothing endures but change. I’ve drifted in and out of here a few times over the years, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.
I picture them more like the Mystics from The Dark Crystal.
