Now I guess the majority of people use the internet to procrastinate at work/college. But what did they do in the good ole days? Surely there are only so many coffees you can make in one day?
Mel.
Oh, I can procrastinate for Scotland without the use of any modern contrivances; I can stare out of the window until the cows come home (and continue beyond that). Looking at a page without focusing your eyes is another good way, and you still look like you’re working. There’s always the newspaper (or printed handbill in the 17th and 18th centuries) if you want to keep your mind active. In the days of outside toilets, office workers in large buildings in the 18th century (and believe me there are some pretty big buildings of that age in Edinburgh) must have taken pretty long toilet breaks.
