How did you get that scar? (A Poll)

I’ve got a beige scar in the shape of an elongated plus sign on my lower back. I got it ages and ages ago, and I can’t remember the exact story offhand, but it had something to do with me running in the kitchen, a bottle (glass, evidently), water spilled, and me falling on broken glass.

So, where did you get your scar? What’s the location, size and shape? How many scars have you collected over the years?
Tell us all about it.

One of my scars is under my chin from falling down as a kid. I was trying to pick myself up and landed on my chin on a hardwood floor. I recall blood dripping and being rushed to a doctor’s office or hospital.

If I’m ever murdered in the middle of nowhere with no identification, it’ll be pretty easy to identify if I’m found by the police or rescue workers before the wildlife and Mother Nature.

Most of my scars resulted from the same thing: a battle featuring me on my bicycle and a stranger in a car. I got about six half-inch diameter round holes in my left thigh and lower leg from when I was in traction. This is in addition to a six-inch long scar on my left lower leg, a four-inch long scar on my lower back over my right hip, and about four one-inch long scars on my head (three of which are hidden by my hair). At least I managed to put a sizeable dent in the front end of that car.

I’ve just a half-inch long oval scar on my left thigh from when I pressed too hard with knitting needle to relieve an itch caused by a cast. I’ve got a tiny scar on one of my right toes from when a door with metal weather-stripping on the underside slide over my foot. And I’ve got a tooth-sized scars from when my cat bit the hell out of my hand.

I have a fleshy quarter inch scar on the right side of my forehead that I got from ramming my head into the corner of a trailer when I was about six years old. It’s hardly noticeable anymore but I can still feel it.

I’ve also got a similar scar on the back of my head that I got a year or two before that one. It was snowing outside and my mom called me to the porch so I ran out to see what she wanted, slipped on some ice, and cracked my head on the door jamb.

I can still remember the feeling of the stitches coming off that wound seventeen years (and 80% of my life) later.

I’ve got a 6cm scar on my belly from an operation to correct pylorics stenosis when I was around 3 weeks old. The interesting thing is that the original incision was only 1 cm. The scar grew with me.

I’ve got scars in the shape of a deadbolt on my right middle finger from when my sister slammed my hand in a door and the bolt crushed my finger.

I’ve got a 5cm scar down the back of my head from when I slipped on some ice in Canada.

I’ve also got assorted scars in other places on my body from normal bumps and scrapes – I’m pretty clumsy sometimes :).

…i have a nice new scar across the right side of my throat…i had spinal fusion surgery in January and they go in through the front, move your voicebox and get to the spine that way…its a pretty col scar.about 3 inches…i made up a story about a bar fight in Vegas…sound more interesting than “a surgery scar”

a couple small scars on my forehead at the hairline, from trying to run under a strand of barbed wire…

one on my chin, about 3/4" long, from getting bitten by a dog…

one on my left shoulder, about 3" long, from getting a tenodesis operation to keep my shoulder from dislocating…

then there’s this hernia scar I’m real proud of…

Ouch! You all have interesting and painful stories to go with your scars. Mine is rather uninteresting…

I’ve got an oval shaped scar (about the size of a dime, kinda) on my right thigh, right on the top a little leftish of center. This is from when I was about five or six years old and I spilled hot hot hot chicken noodle soup onto my lap. Apparently I passed out for a bit, and woke up with a cold wet towel on my leg, and my mom hysterically talking to the doctor on the phone.

Other than that…the little tiny circular scar on my right wrist from when a friend accidently stabbed his pencil into my wrist in grade six is the only other interesting scar. But that one is near impossible to see.

I have a small, white scar (2 cm) on my forehead just above my eyebrow. I was running through the house as a toddler, and tripped and fell into the edge of a counter.

I have a long scar on my abdomen (4 inches) from a childhood operation to correct an intestinal problem.

The most noticeable one is on my right foot- I was on a camping trip and slipped down an embankment (I was dumb and not wearing shoes at the moment) and it skinned most of the flesh off the back of my foot. Now its just a big pale patch of scar tissue.

Hmm.

Small scar on left eyebrow, collision with washbasin at about age three or four.

Surgical scar on left elbow, which I broke in a piggy-back race, they had to operate to set the bone and wire it together, I’m telling you, piggy-back racing is an extreme sport …

Half inch scar on left middle fingertip, old cheese-slicing injury.

Smallish surgical scar on … ahem. Let’s just say it doesn’t show in public. It’s from the removal of an epididymal cyst. If you don’t know what one of those is, cherish your ignorance.

I’ve got a bunch.

One on my forhead, the most noticable, came from falling while trying to close the garage door when I was little. I couldn’t reach it so I stacked some stuff. Needless to say gravity won. I didn’t tell my parents right away and I went inside and put bandages on it. My parents only found out when they say blood on the floor.

I have another one on my chin that I got from falling up the stairs. We lived in a house with wooden floors and I slipped when I was running.

I used to have a really cool looking scar on my foot from a motorcycle accident. I hit a deer and slid down the road. You can still see it but not as much as I would like, hell after what I went though I got to have some proof.

  1. surgical scar on right hand ring finger knuckle, about 6 cm from whem I was 10 (busted my knuckle real good, needed 2 surgeries + 3 years of physio to get it working again. Still can’t hyper extent my finger (when you try and bend your finger the other wayu at the knuckle. nope. can’t do it))

  2. nice V shaped scar on index vinger on left hand, happened when I was 23 and wanted to change a spool in a binding machine. Machine did not have safety, I didn’t know, so my finger got caught and I nearly lost it. Needed 12 stitches. Nearly invisible now.

  3. I don’t know if they would count as scars: when i was a teenager, and very much into the punk scene, I had 10 piercings in my right ear, and a nose piercing. All metal has been removed since a good few years, but the holes are still visible. They’re not “open” anymore, if you know what I mean, but yeah, I’ll have puncture scars for the rest of my life…

I have a Y-shaped scar on my forehead. It’s my mom’s fault. “I’ll get up on the ladder and saw through the tree branch. You catch it and keep it from crushing my tomato plants.” I caught the branch with my face. It sucked.

I have a nice round scar on my left thigh where I got shot with a BB gun and my friend dislodged the BB with his pocketknife. Yes, it was one of those childhood 1-pump BB gun fights that quickly escalated to a 10-pump BB gun fight.

I have a burn scar on the inside of my left calf. When I was about 11, my friends and I taped a bunch of smoke bombs to my bicycle and lit them up. I rode down the street, leaving a smoke screen behind me. Then my leg brushed up against one of the smoke bombs as I was pedaling and I got a nasty burn.

My lip also has a nice scar that you can see when I smile. Simple thing, really…just another “toddler learning to walk has an encounter with a corner of a coffee table” accident.

Pyloric Stenosis?

I had a pyloromyotomy when I was a month old, and I have a 4-inch scar on the right side of my adbomen, just below the ribcage.

I have a scar on my back from having a large mole removed.

I have a scar on my right wrist following a mishap with the boardgame “Mouse Trap”.

I have a scar on my right palm that looks like a dent. I’m not sure when or how I got this, but it looks like something one would get by putting out one’s hand to break a fall on gravel.

Your scar that grew with you is interesting Silentgoldfish. I have a 5" scar on my thigh from sliding my leg under a dining room chair to push it back into place. It ran almost the whole length of my upper thigh at the time, but as I’ve grown it seems to have shrunk (stayed the same?). I usually don’t get many comments on it unless I’m pretty tan during the summer. Then people will tell me I have a run in my nylons.

My other most notable scar is on my right wrist. It looks like a combination botched attempt on my life and treasure map, except where the “X” would be on the map, it has an “H” instead. I fell on a large piece of bottle glass running in the parking lot on the way to the park. Yes, my father told me not to run, but my brother screaming, “You can’t catch me!” won out. He was right, I couldn’t.:stuck_out_tongue:

most noticeable are the 4 scars just below my lower lip and one above my lip form a spectacular face plant over the handlebars of bike when I was 8.

Another scar is in my lip from a fight when I was 18. 7 stitches in my lip 5 in the gums where I lost the tooth.

another scar is on my eyelid from a car accident.

the coolest looking one wraps around my big toe from cutting off almost half of it when I stepped on a broken bottle when I was five.

I have a crappy scar on my right upper thigh. It’s about 4 inches long. It’s from having an infected lymph node removed. It is still thick with scar tissue. I really want it to go away.

Has anyone tried plastic surgery to get rid of scars?

I have a few rogue chicken pox scars… the one I hate the most is on my forehead almost right between my eyes… looks like someone shot me (although only I ever notice the stupid thing)

Then I have the scar from my C Section. A nice well faded (Finally) “bikini line” scar… like I’m really going to wear a bikini! We’ll see what that looks like after they open it up again to deliver my next child this fall.

A small scar right behind the knuckle on the index finger of my right hand. Came from a swiss army knife (or maybe an knock-off) that closed on my finger while I was stupidly trying to do some aimless carving. Not too impressive, but it has sentimental value for being one place on my body that clearly reflects my own personal history and not my genetics.

Also have a bitchin’ scar on my abdomen. It’s round and has an aesthetically pleasing shape. I think it came from losing my connection to the umbilicus when I was very young.
Ducks and runs.

Let’s see … :: glancing at body to count them up ::

Pruning saw scar on back of right hand
Tiny scar from sulfuric acid in chemistry class
Several on both elbows from bike accidents
Ditto on the left knee (longish one)
Best one is on the side of my left shin - where I nicked myself with a machete.

And the usual assortment of various nicks from doing construction work.
