How do I change these 2 default settings on my PC? (Driving me nuts!)

I apologize in advance for asking for help here, but I’m at my wit’s end. I want to change two default settings on my PC (running Windows 98 SE). The first one is the one that’s so annoying – nothing I’ve tried works; and I haven’t even tried to fix #2 because I grew so frustrated with #1. I figured I’d better throw in the towel and just ask the great minds at the SDMB. Here goes:

  1. I hate the “Large Icon” view that most folders serve up when you click them open. I want to see the “Details” view, dammit! Can I make the “Details” view my default? Is so, how?

  2. I bought this PC from a friend. Consequently, all embedded documents think that he is the author, not me. How can I change the computer’s “ownership” to my name?

Thanks in advance.

Disclaimer: I hope this works in 98, it’s been a while, I know it’s like this in 2000 and XP.

2.) If you are referring to Office Documents? Open MS Word and Select Tools | Options… | User Information Tab. I’m not sure what version of Office you are using. so this may be slightly different.

If you are referring to any and all files, windows records it by the logged on User. Do you use a user name to log-on? If not then it’s probably set up to log-on a default user.

Please elaborate.
