My wife has her bachelor’s and wants to go back and become a nurse. Are there any reputable services that can help find money for school? I fear most services are a scam.
Other than that, what are other ways to find money for nursing school? Any ideas are appreciated.
We are white-bread as they come, so minority scholarships are a no-go.
I know little about nursing, but I’d expect the school would have a financial aid office that may be able to help. She might need to be accepted first, though.
I’ve heard of programs where the students get loans, but the loans can be forgiven if the student is willing to work in a rural area for some period of time.
First place to look is through the school itself. Start with the actual nursing faculty, then broaden outwards. Tell us the actual school she is attending and we might be able to help more.
Also, the only reputable service that can help you find scholarships is, really, the school itself. (I’m not a scholarship expert, but I’ve never heard of anybody using a professional service to find or acquire scholarship money. This does not mean that there may be books that could assist you in locating potential grant money, but those books should be available for free through a public / academic library.) The faculty’s and the school’s webpage should have explicit links to “Financial Aid” resources.
If you haven’t found this yet, it is someplace to start. Goodluck.
My aunt recently finished her RN degree. When she had about 10 months left, she was approached with an offer (through the school, I’m sure) to work as an RN in Phoenix for 3 years in exchange for having her entire RN education paid for. The program offered jobs in other places too, not just Phoenix (I think one of her friends went to Texas).
The offer was too good for her to pass up - she really didn’t have the money to pay for school anyway. She’s in her late 40s, didn’t particularly mind leaving Ohio and we happen to have relatives in Phoenix she could stay with. She did get her move all paid for and gets a housing stipend as well.
I don’t know the name of the program at all, but like I said she was approached through the school, she didn’t go out looking for it. I agree with the others - find out what’s available through the school or what the school knows.
