How do I find out about a movie that may not have been released?

Here’s the deal…

I know for a fact that a film was shot in my house sometime between 2002-2004. The place was empty and the owners let a crew use it.

Simple enough.

But the owners are out of the picture (ha!) and the entire rest of my knowledge is that I believe it to be a genre picture of some kind (horror, mystery, etc) and that it was an independent production.

The town is Marietta, OH. God knows there can’t be many films produced here.

Can anyone help?

If this was an amateur or student film, you’re out of luck. But if it was a feature film from an actual producer, that town’s Chamber of Commerce would have a record of it (Most cities and towns are extremely accommodating to film crews, in hopes of attracting more film productions to the area. Baltimore gladly put up with John Waters for years and, as a payoff, got several lucrative Barry Levinson productions filmed there). Once you have more information (like the name of the film or its director), go to the Internet Movie Database and some info is likely to be there regardless of the stage of production.

Contact the Ohio Film Commission.

Aww, that’s just harsh. I’ve always had the feeling that Baltimore embraces their exceedingly camp cult director. He has plenty of sidewalk and poster space at the Senator Theatre, and the city seemed thrilled that the touring production of the Hairspray musical started out at the Morris A. Mechanic downtown. Yes, Waters does show the embarassingly trashy side of the city much of the time, but he does it with such love that it’s still charming and flattering.
