How do I fix my Arial font?

Okay, I need help. My Arial Italic font has been “broken” for years, and all efforts to find a free fix have failed. It’s supposed to come free with WinXP, but it’s never worked right, and basically any webpage using italics w/an Arial font makes the screen display like it’s 27,000,000 million pixels wide (give or take a few) – can anyone help me fix this problem?

The usual advice is to reinstall Windows: Microsoft support is down just now, but they have a page on how to restore default fonts in XP. Search for it.

I think the first thing to do is to delete the offending font, by going to c:\WINDOWS\Fonts and delete ARIALI.TTF. Don’t take my word for it, though, as I’ve never tried it.

You can also download something called “TR Arial Italic” here, but I don’t know if it’s the same.

There is a way to change the aspect ratio of a font, so that it acan appear wider or more narrow. Spunds like yours is set rather too wide.

Unfortunately although I can do this in WORD, I don’t know how to do this for webpages.

How do you do it in Word?
