How do I get donations?

Not me, but the SO.

The SO was just laid off from her medical teaching job, along with several others. She’s a Registered Nurse, and was hoping to go on a medical missionary trip to Nicaragua in May, and now may not be able to afford it. (She’s guessing it will cost about $2,000.)

What’s the best way to set up a donation site so that she can go off and heal people? Kickstarter? Something else? How does one get the word out? Does anyone have experience with this sort of thing?

GoFundMe is more for donations. Kickstarter is more for projects with a product at the end.

GoFundMe is the norm for this sort of thing.

The most effective fundraising is going to be among your own extended networks. You’ll need to reach out to your friends, and try to get a few of them to champion the cause among their social circles. It’s not always comfortable, but it does work.
