You post this mishmash and you complain about others’ education?
No white space, little punctuation, and misspellings? Yes, that is possible.
This is a very old board, in internet terms. It pre-dates texting and the wide-spread use of “simplified” spellings and punctuation. It is expected that the posters put a bit of effort into most posts, and that the effort include standard spelling and syntax, although allowance is made for those for whom English is not their primary language.
The use of white space is more varied, but I’ve noticed that the more frequently engaged posters use quite a bit.
As Woody Allen says, we’ve all done it-- we just don’t know it.
Let me get this straight, dope-wise:
The Straight Dope originates in Chicago, IL;
Cecil Adams is the Straight Dope leader;
Kcmo alleges the message board is run by nazi’s;
Thus & Therefore, Cecil Adams is an Illinois Nazi?!?
(ya know who hates Illinois Nazis?)
Personally, I think you’ll fit in fine here. Just chill a tad. Remember though, the mods are unpaid for what they do, and they are worth every penny of what they are paid. Oh, and never, I mean never, ask to borrow their sheep.
I always like nazi uniforms. Why aren’t we issued one?
They are still waiting for Ed to decide on the color of the lining. (It’s taking longer than we thought)
Stop it. Just stop it. This just isn’t Reich.
Brown or black? Tough choice.
Dear Jesus.
Buy this
I think that’s maybe too advanced. I think spelling is or should be a prerequisite.
Oolically, oolically, golly what a day!
That book was written by Nazis (or possibly Nazi’s).
Grammar Nazis, but still …
Nice limerick.
Or a dya.

As for me, I like to wear a [Prussian pickelhaube]
(https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/8d/Bismarck_pickelhaube.jpg) whilst moderating.
Not quite the same, but for $52.25 he can have this added to it: http://www.ma-shops.de/futter/item.php5?id=8539
You will go to heil for that pun.
These puns will be our downfall.
But it is not yet, if ever it will be. I anticipate many Royal Commissions, committee meetings, and other political consultations on the topic; and if it is legalized at the federal level, it may not necessarily be at the provincial level. And if it is, there remains the questions of provincial taxation, federal taxation, and distribution through legal channels. Dropping the question on the provinces means that growing your own may not be an option in your province, so the feds and provinces don’t miss out on tax revenue. And there remains the question of keeping it out of the hands of minors. Not to mention how to test individuals who are impaired on marijuana while driving.
In short, my own feeling is that Canada won’t see marijuana legalized before the next general election. There are too many questions to be asked, and I cannot see Ontario for one (which has the most restrictive regulations on alcohol in the country) to say, “Toke up on homegrown, and knock yourself out.” No, Ontario, like the other provinces, will be looking to regulate, to declare illegal those who do not buy marijuana from licensed sources, and to make money off it through excise taxes.
Sorry for the hijack, but I have dealt with far too many clients accused of drug possession, who say, “So, like, marijuana will be legal, like Justin says, so, dude, like why can’t we put this off until, like, he passes the law?” Well, Justin, and his party, is not going to pass a “legalize marijuana” law anytime soon. They have far more pressing priorities: Syrian refugees, RCAF CF-18s bombing ISIS, deficits, and so on. I’d suggest legalizing marijuana is at the bottom of his “to do” list.
I thought standard issue was a pair of Buster Browns and a Nerf Gun…and the mod hat was one of these. No?
