That’s the question, because if I try to do it, says that I don’t have permission.
User CP > Edit Profile. Select your birthday month and date from the dropdown lists, and optionally enter the year. Click the button at the bottom of the form to submit the changes. You have to be cookied in to use this feature. There appear to be some cookie issues at the moment, so it may not work for you until they get this sorted out.

So if birthdays can be inserted in the calendar, does that mean I don’t have to do any more MBT’s?

If the calendar does stay, Flami, I don’t see why you couldn’t still do the birthday threads. After all, they’re a really nice shout out to those with birthdays for that month. A lot of folk seem to like them. Count me among that number. 
Hey, this email notification thing gives you the text of the post! Cool stuff… I think I like this particular feature, and hope it stays through all the tweaks.
