How do I insert a graph into a post?

I have a question about a graph I saw recently on line. I want readers here to be able to refer to it so that I can ask my question, but I don’t know how to create a link to it. I’m really not so tech savvy and don’t have any social media accounts so if that’s the route I need to take, I’m out of luck. I have never seen a graphic inserted into a question on the SDMB but maybe with the new format that can be done. Any simple solution would be appreciated. Thanks, Dopers.

A Graph

A different graph:

If it’s a static image from a website, just right-click on the image and select “copy image address” (that’s the wording in Chrome, anyway). Paste that URL on its own line in your post, and the “onebox” feature will show it. If it’s something else (live graphs) it seems you’ll only be able to link to it, the onebox doesn’t seem to allow that functionality through.

Yeah, I don’t know where I found the graph, but I downloaded it, so now it’s on my computer. I don’t want to post a link to my computer. Maybe there’s another route.

Unfortunately they disabled image upload. Maybe… just maybe… we can get it back someday.

Aha - found it. (Thanks, krondys) Question: notice the skyscraper effect from about mid April on. In roughly one-week increments, there are 3-4 day rapid rises, followed by 3-4 day rapid declines. Not present, or not obvious, prior to that mid-April peak. What the heck explains these “skyscrapers”? Something about sampling? Human behavior? The virus? Public statements? Is it significant? Any epidemiologist around here?

Mods - can the title now be changed to Coronavirus graph question or something like that?

The spikes happen because the graph is tracking new reports of deaths, not new deaths.

e.g. a bunch of people die over the weekend and the county coroner mails Sat - Mon’s 3 days worth of death reports to the state HQ on Tue. They open the letter on Thurand post all of those deaths to their website on Fri. And the dumb website shows all those deaths happened on Fri. Meanwhile there’s a different county coroner who emails his reports in so they arrive Monday afternoon but he doesn’t work on Wed so those don’t get added until next Mon. Etc.

Bottom line: it’s noise. The signal is the several-day moving average.

You can’t just put a post in asking the moderators to do something. They don’t go through and read every post. If you want the title changed, go to your first post and click the three dots under it, then click the flag. This will report it to the Moderators and you can request a title change.

Thank you.

I think that, now that you know how to post the graph, to ope a new thread in the Quarantine Zone. At this point this thread is a bit of a mess so I’m going to close it.
