I share a computer at work. I also like to browse the SDMB in my downtime while I’m at work. Now I don’t care that my coworkers can tell that I’ve been on this board; but what I do care about is some one coming up behind me and being able to use my username to make posts. So how do I make it to where you have to put in my password once I leave this cite? Becuase as it stands right now all I have to do is type in this cite and I’m able to make posts with out puting in my password. I’ve already tried clearing the history; that didn’t work.
Does clicking “logout” not do it? On thread view pages, logout is found at the bottom under the Quick Reply box. On the SDMB front page, it’s right after the forum list. I can’t find it on the forum view page, though.
You can wipe your cookies. What browser are you using?
I’m using IE I haven’t tried the logout thing yet. Heck embarassingly enough I never even realized it was there!:smack:
I have tried earasing my cookies. At least I think I did. I’m gonna try both these options and see if that does it. Thanks for the input thus far.
You probably already know this but IE keeps cookies in both your Temporary Internet Files folder and in the Cookies folder. Make sure you clear both of them.
Well, the loging out thing did it. Man talk about fighting ignorance!:o
if u are using internet exploerer …
each time before you shut down but after you log off go back into internet exploerer on your desktop and click “file” then when the drop down menu comes down click “work offline” then go to “view” then to drop down to “internet options” from here you can clean your cookies (make sure you also dump your recycle if your pc is not allready set to do so after cleaning cookies) and MAKE SURE YOU DELETE YOUR HISTORY FILES! in this same area you can do that as your cookies. even change your prefrences but you can see in your history files everything you do even without being logged in.
I am not sure your log out will work. I log out but when I come here it automatically signs me in each time i arrive . You should try going to the home page an dediting your account…or gulp creating a new one and not allowing the option to auto log on when you completed signing up.
Taboo
Also go to the Content tab on Internet options, and then to the Auto Complete button to wipe out any info stored there - such as passwords and form info.
WinME and IE5.5.
Logging out still leaves the password in the box, in asterisks. I log out, as Boxer and I share the computer, and when I come back and type in the first two letters, “Du”, up comes “Duck Duck Goose” and I highlight that with the mouse, and then poof! There’s my password, in asterisks, yes, but someone using the computer after me could still log on as me.
And we have it set on “Empty temporary files when browser is closed”, and even then, the password still appears when I type my name in the “Log In” box.
Shakes, I think it’s possible you may have to tell the SDMB User Control Panel “do not accept cookies”, and then you’ll just have to type in your password every time.
Maybe this thread should be moved over to ATMB…
If the password has been saved on your computer, it has to be cleared through the control panel.
Control Panel->Internet Properties->Content->Auto Complete
From there you have the choice to set it not to remeber passwords and form entries, and you can clear what is already saved.
While cookies aren’t the end of the world when it comes to your security, I imagine everyone probably knows that you should not save passwords on a shared computer, as in SHAKES’ case.
Since this is a question about this message board, I’ll move this thread to ATMB.
