How do I post a new thread (like my own)

You win the thread. If you can find it.

I’ve got biscuits and duct tape and have used them often, but how do I use them?

Often.

With goats.
Got to have goats.

Totes

The technology to do this does not exist in this simulation.

Mmmmm, goats. And biscuits. And duct tape. Often.

I can’t wait to join this board.

Don’t you know you have to choose a witty user name first?
Sheesh.

That would make it a duplicate thread-not allowed.

Mimes, man. They never learn.

I really wish I had access to a computer so I could do all this interweb stuff you people do. You look like you have fun with your nets, routes, goats, totes, and taped ducks. I just have biscuits.

And they’re really dry.

Great moments in meta: on mods who suggest proper forums, hoi-poloi, this thread, and OP himself, who might have last laugh: The OP’s only other post, from five minutes previous to this one, which was replied to by one person, in IMHO thread–
Irritated by people not giving activities their full attention

Well I’ve been struggling to come up with some creative ways to help you all out of your situation.

The following thread, for example, has a lot of great info on the finer points of how this board works:

I guess you could say that I’ve been…wait for it…linking outside the box.

Mines, on the other hand, may be useful for them.

What do I need to do to follow that link?
Also, I noticed that too.

Okay, I'll check it out.

Hey, it worked! Thanks!

damn botty message length algorithm

How do I open this thread to view and respond to it?

Actually this one is pretty easy to do actually.

I assume you are computer savvy some and therefore using IE as your default browser with the status bar set to view. (If not, I can sketch you up something pretty quick in MS Paint that could walk you through that easy enough.)

Anyhow, use your mouse to hover over the link you want to go to and the internets address should be displayed in the lower left corner of your IE browser window. Now use your pencil and paper to carefully write down all the characters you see, even the dots and slashes and other special characters and so on and so forth.

Double check your work at this point to make sure you’ve made no mistakes as this step is crucial.

Oh - I should have mentioned up front that you’d need some additional materials (the pen and the paper or a pencil or a magic marker, or you know just whatever - anything to write stuff down on, that’s up to you) but it’s not possible to edit this now that I’ve posted it but. So jsut make sure you can write it all down when you get to this point.

Next you’ll want to shut down your computer (first shutting down of course any open programs in alphabetical order) and count slowly to ten before you turn it back on. I usually do this four more times (but always at least three times total) just to make sure all the buffers and serial ports and that kind of stuff is really cleared out.

Okay, we’re pretty much done now so when you got Windows running again pull up your Notepad or your favorite editor or actually a spreadsheet is pretty good for this too but the point is what you need to do here is type up the all the stuff you wrote down earlier so you can use the left button on your mouse to then highlight it so you can right click on that if you get my drift.

Select down to the copy option, pick on that and then run your Internet Explorer browser IE however you do that for your computer (specifics vary of course but mine is set to run automatically all of the time).

I guess you’re at Google now if that’s your home page like mine is if not just go there like I explained earlier about getting to google. In the search area box right click in there and select down again but this time to the paste option instead which will then auto-fill in what you wrote down earlier.

All you have to do now is hit the “Enter” button - it’s that easy!

Switch back to the editor and shut that down so when you’re Google search comes up you can just scroll down the list and the link you want to go to should be in there somewhere. Sometimes if you re-do it again a few more times it will eventually be in there somewhere and then you just click on that.

Ta-da - you should be at the link you wanted to go to and your Uncle Bob’s you uncle!

PS - it sounds kind of long when it’s all typed out but after you practice its pretty quick actually.

Ok. I was able to get as far as turning my computer off by selecting the “Shut Down” option, but I don’t see a “Turn Back On” option in the menu, so I’m stuck with it off. Any advice?

I’m not sure what was up with the OP, but he or she is too young to post on the SDMB and has been suspended. You guys with meta-problems will just have to live with the uncertainty.

Now, how do you close a thread? Asking for a friend.
