How do I stop my room from smelling like me?

The place I’m living in now nailed my windows shut for the winter (or something that sounds to equally violate the fire code) and I can’t open them until spring. Now I smell me.

I know I can hang air fresheners in my car to disguise the smell of drunk people I hang around, what can I do here? (Yes, I wash things. I think I can get a neutral smell, but I want a nice smell. People liked the smell of the outdoors in my room.)

Ewwww… I’m sorry, but I just wondered what Anal Scurvy would smell like, and grossed myself out

As to your problem… plants? Lots of indoor plants might help. Plus take your bedding outside to air whenever possible. Try drying your clothes outdoors as well. With any luck, they’ll bring the smell of fresh air in with them.

One magic word for you: Incense. Use sparingly, and choose a good quality. I use different incenses for different moments/moods.

Of course, depending on where you live, brands will vary, but try to go for scents that are based on real plants.
Incenses based on perfumes and such tend to smell overpowering and not so good.

Cedar, Fir, Juniper, Magnolia, apple blossom and such can be a good start.

Just stay away from the cheap stuff! Cheap incense smells bad, will make you sneeze and make your eyes itch. (and it might erase your Hard-Disk and abuse your cat!:smiley: )

Heya,

Glade Fresh Scent carpet stuff. You sprinkle it on and vacuum it up. It works well. I have 3 cats and I smoke (trying to quit…aarg) and this stuff makes my place smell wonderful.

Eric

I agree with the incense idea. Incense has a wonderful quality of entering into fabrics, drapes and carpeting after just a few burnings and the smell lasts a long time.

One of the new age stores here burns incense a lot and when I would by clothing from them, I hated to wash it because it always smelled so nice.

Feed it several limes to cure the scurvy; then stick a cork in it for the winter.
When you grow tired of incense, try washing the kitchen, bath or walls with bleach. It does a good job of eliminating unwanted odors, and replaces them with a slightly Ozoney outdoorish goodness.

bleach. a couple of tablespoons on a saucer. it will smell like a swimming pool instead. bwaahaaahaahhaaaa

sleestak: a bit of malt vinegar in a bowl is the best way to neutralise cigarette pongs - a bowl left overnight neutralises all the tobacco smells (and it doesn’t make your room smell of chips, either).

This sounds like a good winter to take up a new hobby- baking. Nothing like the smell of fresh bread…

A good idea, and one I use regularly. Also, heats the place while baking, and, if you don’t use any oils or butter, it’s non-fat!

Here’s another cooking idea. Make a curry - you won’t get the smell out until Spring. Of course, you might get sick of the smell of curry.

Also, those electric air fresheners (plug-ins) work pretty well.
