Every time I start my computer I manually exit that little quicktime icon in the ‘notification area’ in windows xp (where the clock is). I hardly ever watch quicktime movies, and when I do I can’t see how that little icon is helping. How do I turn the bugger off using quicktime’s own methods if possible (I don’t want to use msconfig’s selective startup mode)
Also: Is the nvidia one really necesary? I can just as easily right click on the desktop to get at the display settings. And the ‘safely remove hardware’ one I don’t need either. I just plug and unplug usb devices as needed (which is almost never now that I have 8 usb ports)
I know it probably makes no performance difference, but I just can’t stand seeing a clutter of icons down there. I like the peace of mind of knowing that the bare minimum is running on my computer for what I use it for.
P.S. I know about the hide inactive icons feature. I want them to be OFF not hidden but still running.
I’m running Win98 and older versions of Nvidia drivers. Your OS may be different, but this might help you locate the options.
There’s a Quicktime icon in the Control Panel. Click on it. Then select ‘browser plug-in’ from the drop-down menu. De-select the option “Quick Time system tray icon”.
There’s a setting for the Nvidia ‘display properties’ icon in display properties/settings/advanced/Riva TNT/additional properties/desktop utilities.
I knew there’d be an option somewhere! Thanks rowrrbazzle
