How do I verify a genuine Super Bowl Ring?

My friend has what she believes to be a Super Bowl Ring from the Steeler’s during the 70s. She came to me to help verify it because A: I am a Steeler’s fan and B: I collect coins.

OK, neither of these reasons qualifies me to verify whether or not it is legit. Does anyone out there know where I could take it or where I might find info to help verify it?

Google image search turns up lots of pix.

First off, do a search of google images for Pittsburgh Superbowl rings. That will let you know if you are even in the right ball park. Second, look for a name or number that could ID who it may have belonged to (often on the side). Third, it may not have belonged to a player, sometimes rings (close to, but not identical to what players get, are given to the front office staff). Also, it is possible that it is a replica that was mass produced and sold to fans. Your best bet would be going to a jeweler to find out if any of the gems are real.
