How do we feel about fireworks in the MMP?

Morning all. Stayed in until 8am (ain’t time zones wonderful?) and will head out to mow the yard in a little bit. The front yard is on the west side, so it is often dewy and damp in the morning before the sun gets high enough to dry it out, so may start with the back yard. Either way, will try to finish early (supposed to get to 88F this afternoon).

Surprisingly few booms after the big displayed ended about 9:30pm, either the neighbors are quieter than normal or they have been saving their stuff for tonight…we’ll see.

Paper has been rescued from the driveway, so puzzles are there to solve. All y’all have a good 4th (even if like doggio you celebrate it with a 5th…)

Happy Independence Day to us folks in the US!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. I need to go to the city for a pick up at 2, but after that, Nelson and I will head up to the plateau where there are no fireworks to spend the night.

I did a live chat with da Jungle last night when I couldn’t get my address corrected in GPS. They were the ones who fixed it last time and my last order from them was delivered to my neighbor. We’ll see when my next order comes in (slated for Tuesday).

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Sitting bleary-eyed with my initial mug o’ caffeine, having a stare down with the day.

Will go to my grandchildren’s for my usual Grandma Sunday. A backyard 4th planned there~grilled burgers and watching Harriet splash in her wading pool. I imagine Sorenson will just eat and sleep.

My only fireworks will be tolerating the artillery bombardment into the wee hours once I get home.

Happy Sunday!
Happy Fourth!

It was a cool (and soggy) 60 degrees at the park this morning.
We had to meet up at the county dog park as the city dog park is closed for the fire irks display tonight.
The county park is not as nice, we have to bring bowls, and water, there are no trees or shade, and it’s further away.
Had Echo all spazzed out. Firstly, because I was carrying a bag with me. That’s suspicious. Secondly, because we didn’t turn the right way for the dog park. Thirdly, the biggest spaz for her, I DROVE RIGHT PAST THE DAYCARE! She was all upset, whining, MOM! MOM! YOU’RE GOING THE WRONG WAY! MOM! MOM! WHAT ARE YOU DOING? MOM! MOM! MOM!
Even Ripple turned around and gave me the WTF? look.
Then when she realized where we were going, the spazzing turned to happy excitement.

Perfect timing when we left. The dog she got into a fight with pulled in just as we were leaving. Echo saw him and went off, she even tried to crawl under my truck to get to him.

I guess I’m not 100% yet, I came home, ate some breakfast, and fell asleep.

Still no Ruby. She’s been seen but goes back into the woods if anybody comes near her. Trackers put up a feeding station and a camera to see if they can spot her near the food. I think the next step is to try to trap her if she keeps returning to that area.

I haven’t heard anything from family, so I guess nothing was said.
I should call my aunt today. I try to talk to her once a week but she is so hard to get. She’s got to be close to 90, and is in very poor health.
I’m going to try calling her now.

All y’all enjoy the holiday, even those for whom it is not a holiday.

A Dungeness crab-and-cheese omelette is in the making. I cook the eggs, covered, over low heat to cook them all the way through. Higher heat can over-brown the bottom while the top is still liquid. It would be different if I had a grill.

At least the hammerers took Sunday July 4 off, so I was able to sleep until 10:30 AM and get some badly needed catchup sleep.

Steve McQueen:

Up the rebels! Down the British!

Richard Attenborough:

Quite right, too.

Mowage has been completed and Fettuchini has been Alfredo’ed, so outside of a good bath and possible nappage, my major tasks for the day have been completed.

Sari, if they have trappers after the missing pooch, that is a good sign. Like I said before, my nephews 9-month old bloodhound got loose for several days and kept avoiding folks, but was finally caught and caged. Hope it works for Ruby.

Onward!

Ruby is home.
Some people caught her in their back yard.
We are all so happy!

YAY for a safe Ruby!! (BTW, that was the name of my MIL’s mother!)

I just finished setting passwords for all of our wifi networks. For some stupid reason, 2 of them were unsecured. Now they’re good. So yay!

We installed the cabinet in the basement and discovered how out of square the wall and ceiling are in the corner. Oh well… Then we hung the new TV. I’m about to go back downstairs and finish setting it up.

Daughter will grab pizza on her way here - she’s supposed to warn me just before she leaves. The sun is shining and it’s not stupid hot. Huzzah!!!

I showered and went to Lowes where I bought a pressure washer. https://www.lowes.com/pd/CRAFTSMAN-2400-PSI-Electric-Pressure-Washer/5001643485

I’m super excited to try it out. After Lowes, I ran my car through the carwash. I’m not super impressed, but for 16 bucks, what can I expect.? I could have paid five dollars more for the ceramic glaze wax. Not thanks, they don’t wash the weird corners on the Jeep, so the wax just rests on the dirt the car wash just doesn’t pick up. I just need to bite the bullet and get it professionally detailed. It’s long overdue. After the car wash, I drove down Safeway to fuel up. I had a dollar off per gallon, and seeing as how I run premium in the Jeep, it was a welcome discount.

Welp, it looks like the marine layer is finally thinning out and the sun is starting to come out. Time to water the posies and then try out my new “toy”!

Happy Fourth y’all.

Here’s a bit of doggerel about it from Walt Kelly:

Our Colander Is Full Of Holes

The Firth of Forth
Lithe in the north.
The first of course
Comes Fore the Fourth
And after fourth is fifth.
Befourth, of course.
Forsooth the sixth:
With tooth and thirth
Somewheres betwixth
July the Forth and Firth.

I’m surprised there’s no such word as catterel.

We’re in Central Orygun again, with the GirlChild and her Hubby. They brought their truck and trailer over with our couch and the queen sized bed from upstairs. We’ve been sleeping on a standard double bed, and, well, we’re both bigger than a breadbox, so it was a bit crowded, and we hung over the bottom and sometimes the sides.

There’s a fireworks ban over here, although there was hardly any booms heard here last year anyway. So we’re not expecting a lot of noise tonight. Not like in the valley. There’s a ban there too, but from the nonsense on the local discussion board there, I expect it’ll be a war zone, as usual. I just hope nobody starts any fires this year. We have enough of those going on as it is.

Anyway, y’all take care, and enjoy your holiday, or weekend, or whatever.

Happy 4th! I am related to nine Declaration of Independence signers, including Tommy J. My favorite is Button Gwinnett (mainly because of his name), born in England, lived in Maryland, and died in a duel. His signature is extremely rare and fetches amounts in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

My least favorite was Carter Braxton, a very wealthy plantation owner who may have been engaged in the capture, selling, and shipping of slaves after inheriting a large contingent of same from his father. The guy had some 16-18 children, so many of you are also likely related to him.

Omelettes were good. Goo got some crab. She also got her flea drops. I pulled up a 35-gallon bag of horsetails, goutweed, various other weeds, young ivy, and a few blackberry vines. The trash bin is out at the street along with the recycling bins, and I’ll fill the latter presently with stuff to be recycled.

Evenin’

Happy not being British day Murricans, happy Sunday the rest of you.

Nothin’ much going on around here, still sorting though the junk and trying to figure out how to pack it all in a car- especially the plants, they’re complicated. Not as complicated as bees though, so there is that.

Trying to transport LIVE BEES would make me break out in hives. :bee:

My people came to the US in the early 1900s so I have no blood connection to colonials… or civil warriors, for that matter.

At the moment, I’m saving our seats while daughter and granddaughter have one last go at the bouncy castles. Soon they’ll clear the outfield in preparation for the fireworks. I’m just glad to sit. That kid done wore me out!

Nice crowd here, live music, and lots for kids to do. Wish FCD was up to it, but he would be dying by now. It’s been a nice evening, tho.

Evening all. Decided to go out and ate at Whalburgers (which aren’t bad, good burgers and better than average fries). A bit pricey, but it did get me out of the house for a little bit/ Bathage and Nappage took up a fair amount of the afternoon.

Sari, happy that they got Ruby back. Hope both they and Ruby learned from it.

Bumba, glad you got the bigger bed. I have a King sized all my own, and even then I sometimes find myself on the edge (travel in my sleep, I guess…)

Taters, hope the new toy works well. I usually get someone to do my driveway and sidewalk every year with a pressure-washer, probably due again.

Cookie, nice family history. My Mom’s side (German) came over as a result of the 1848 uprising there, and my Dad’s family came sometime in the 1880’s from Ireland, so no signers on my side.

FCM, hope Roxy can stay awake for the fireworks…hope YOU can stay awake for the fireworks…

Take care all and I’ll catch you on the next MMP.

Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated and I am happy to report I did not burn the place down or cause major damage. I call that a win. We et N.O,L., achieved nappage, had a little quality cee-mint pond time, and the biiiiiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. As near as I can tell the trash folk are not takin’ tomorrow off. We shall see, I reckon.

Sari yay for Ruby bein’ found and bein’ back at home!

See y’all tomorrow! Nitey Nite!

Dinner: Oysters sautéed with butter, garlic, and tarragon; rib-eye steak cooked on the barbie; and corn on the cob, slathered in butter, wrapped in foil, and cooked on the barbie. I’m drinking ‘ranch water’, and Mrs. L.A. is having margaritas.
