Wheelie’s here!
And nellie didn’t turn into a puddle. So far.
My thoughts about fireworks? I think they are better in small doses. Once or twice a year, have one night for all the professional shows, etc. Even the professional shows are spread apart, so there are groups who go to each one, making everything crowded.
Any other time? No. Nada. I do enjoy a random fireworks show, but not if I need to get sleep, have a migraine, etc. And I don’t have a cranky baby or nervous horse/dog/cat to worry about.
Fireworks are also terribly bad for the environment. So I would set the days with fireworks in the wintertime. Longer night, but people are unlikely to spend so much time outside.
More hail last night, but we just got pea-sized. Nearby town (15 miles away) had 7 cm (2.5 inches) hail. Here’s a tweet from the local news with pictures.
Remembered I was going to try tuna melts on pitas, so I’m making the tuna stuff today, while cooking sausages and carrot mash, so tomorrow’s lunch just needs to be assembled and thrown in the oven.
Hubby has training until 13:00, so lunch is delayed. Not much fun, but that’s how it is.
Happy Tuesday, especially for those who are (hopefully) getting some relief from the PNW heat wave.
I hate fireworks and wish they would ban them for sale to the average Joe.
We’re tinder box dry here but of course they won’t ban sales.
First house FCD and I bought together had a carpeted bathroom… and carpeted kitchen… red sculptured… in Florida! As soon as we were able to afford it, the carpet was gone and vinyl was in! In fact, the red was thru the entire house - so the rest of the house got new, non-red carpeting.
But, yeah, carpet in the bathroom? And the kitchen??
FCD watches them all the time - so much so that we’re seeing repeats. I think he likes to guess the problem before the investigators do.
Honest-to-goodness, I swear I’m going to finish painting in the basement today. No, really!! It’s too hot to work outside and now that we’ve got our cabinet, we can finally finish all the basement stuff, until FCD decides to get the pool table. And I’ve found a bunch of pictures I want to hang also. And the deep sink needs to be attached to the wall. Dang, I still have a lot to do down there!
Plus I need to sort out my desk. I just remembered that we got a bill from the IRS - just $40-something - but I don’t need penalties added to it. Dammit. So desk cleaning shall ensue. (scratch that - I just found it on the counter. As soon as I post this, I’ll pay. One less thing…)
Our not-as-hot-as-out-west heat wave has 3 more days in the 90s, then Firday’s high is supposed to be 77°! I’m so glad we’ve got a working attic fan - every little bit helps! I dread this month’s electric bill, tho, after the mild stretches we had where we didn’t need a/c. But what’cha gonna do?? Well, I’m gonna throw this post out to the internet, pay the taxes we still owe, then exchange my robe and slippers for real clothing.
Happy Tuesday!!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 70 Amurrkin out and cloudy(ish) with a predicted high of 93 and partly N.O.S. for the day with maybe a chance of rain. Or not. TWPTB apparently have no clue. The big item on today’s agenda is laundry. I’m considerin’ a hair cut so thus must needs find a coupon. There could be some quality cee-mint pond time dependin’ on the weather. Sup shall be leftovers from Sunday.
Wheelie!!! ::tacklehug:: how the heck are ya? Come back and play whenever you feel like doin’ so.
Hope all you PNW Mumpers are survivin’ the heat wave. The temps y’all have dealt with make the temps here sound positively Fall-like.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Tuesday Y’all!
Good morning from the PNW.
It reached 106 at my house yesterday; I dunno, it could have actually been warmer, but that was the last temp I looked at. It was miserable, but we had the portable window AC set up in my WFH office, so during the workday at least, I was somewhat comfortable and Polar just hung out with me. Downstairs, however, was a nightmare. We did try to use the AC downstairs, but the cord was too short to reach a socket, and even using a heavy-duty extension cord didn’t work. So, we hauled the AC back up to the bedroom, set it up there, and turned it on. By 8:15 I just couldn’t take sitting downstairs anymore, so I went upstairs to my bedroom to cool down “for a minute”. I ended up stripping down to my skivvies and lying on top of the bed, where I fell asleep.
This morning, it was blessedly comfortable when I got up, and temps are “only” supposed to reach 91 today which is better than 100+ degrees, but still too hot for me.
Roads, highways, and even interstates were buckling from the heat. I am ready for things to go back to normal, but apparently, we will see very warm and dry weather for the foreseeable future.
One more interview today, plus a metric buttload of work and problems to solve. I’d really just like to take the rest of the week off, but there’s too much work, plus I have a third-quarter review/interim performance appraisal meeting on Thursday. Oh well, at least I’ll still have a four-day weekend.
I hope the rest of you are doing well.
This. The year after they were made illegal where I grew up (mid-70s), the new owner of the pool hall where I hung out found a huge stash in the basement of the store and sold them to me for ten bucks. We got bored shooting 'em off, and I’ve been mostly done with them forever.
When I was a kid, we had yellow shag carpeting in the family bathroom. That was the late 60s-early 70s. I recall liking the way it felt under my bare feet. But I never gave a thought to what must have been on that carpet after a few years of use by three young boys and one grown man (I’m sure Mom never made a mess). Good thing I didn’t, or I surely would have been majorly grossed out.
And the trim painting is DONE!!! And the peasants rejoiced!!!
I also scrubbed the french doors - turns out they don’t need to be painted - they just needed to be cleaned. I even did the outside, including windows - go me!!!
The door to the storage room should also get by with being scrubbed, but the laundry room door, stairwell door, and the 2 doors that are half chalkboard will all need a coat of white. Luckily, they’re plain, flat doors - no panels - so zip-zip-zip with a roller and I’ll be done. After lunch. I need a little break right now.
When I was finishing the outside of the french doors, one of those big asshole flies bit my left calf. Dammit! Now I’ve got 2 fly bites that itch. Wonder if calamine will work? I also discovered that Lowe’s sent me the wrong TV mount - I ordered a tilt mount, then sent me a fixed mount. But the price difference is like a buck and it’s not worth the hassle to exchange it, so I’ll live with the fixed mount. It’s really not a huge deal, but it’s just one more thing…
Like the soda I left downstairs. I shall fetch it, then chill till lunchtime. Because I deserve it!
Happy Toosday!
Short morning at the park as Milo showed up and Echo doesn’t like him.
It’s a bright 87 degrees outside, I’s be staying in most of the day except to go pick up groceries at 3.
Many annoyances to deal with today.
The mortgage refinance people need me to send stuff that I have already sent twice, once as attachments to an email and once through their website.
This does not inspire confidence.
They also keep asking for business documents that I don’t have. I am self-employed, but I do not have a business. There are NO documents.
Then I have to reschedule the appointment to take my truck in. One, Monday is a holiday, and I wonder if they are even open. Two, I can’t find a rental for next week. Unless I want to go get one in PA, where some are available and are a bit cheaper. I don’t know how far into PA I have to go, and if it is worth saving $20-$40. I also want to shop around a bit and I think one of my son’s irk perks is saving on car rentals. His perks extend to me.
I’m seriously considering scheduling the irk while my son has his 7 days off and not even getting a rental. I won’t be able to go to the park for a few days, and my neighbor will help out in an emergency.
I’ve got area rugs in my kitchen, because hardwood floors are a pita there. If I decide to stay here, I’ll eventually put in tile. I still want to move, but I haven’t found anything that speaks to me. Also, I need to stop looking at Victorians and Georgians, and start looking at ranchers. My knees already don’t like the stairs, and I think they will like stairs even less 5 years from now.
Good morning all. Slept in until after 8am, and there is a 80% chance of tunder-boomers this afternoon, so glad I did all my running about outside yesterday. Not much on the agenda, need to sweep the carpets, but I am very lazy about it.
Taters, I spend a lot of time…um, underdressed for the occasion, of course being a bachelor it’s easier for me, but staying cool is critical.
Dicey, 2.5" hail!!! Hope nobody got caught outside, that’ll leave a mark…
nellie, listen to the guy from Saudi–I lived in the UAE for four years and what I learned was (1) Westerners needed to go from AC to AC and (2) wearing all-white clothing all over makes sense in that climate (and pity the poor women who have to dress head to toe in black…).
OK, soccer game starts in 15 minutes, so on with the day. All y’all take care.
Ended up working iiregs. It tells you something when flinging 100lbs grills and couches is an easier job than the letters and small boxes section. At least it’s only 86 outside.
I’ve slapped on some makeup in preparation for a video conference (delightful) and my husband just walked into the room to inform me that the HVAC guy is coming to look at our heater/AC, which is delightful since I’m getting on said meeting in 11 minutes and must now apparently help clear out the area in front of the heater. Dammit. Cue the violins for my sob story.
I’m counting down the hours to vacation with my kids. I want outta here.
Lunch today was a BLT on ciabatta bread from the local breakfast/lunch/coffee shop, which brings up a couple of things:
1 - Is there a more perfect sandwich than a BLT?
2 - I need to learn to make garlic aioli.
3 - I need to learn to make ciabatta bread.
Mrs. L.A. was hungry, so I offered to make scrambled eggs and sausage. When I put the milk into the eggs (we’re out of cream) it was lumpy, so I had to spoon out the eggs into another bowl. Mrs. L.A. drinks a lot of milk, so it just doesn’t go bad. I guess it’s hot when the milk in the fridge goes off. I had to pour out about half a gallon. I couldn’t get about half of the whites out from the milk, so the eggs were yolky – any not as much.
FCD wanted to get out of the house, so we had lunch at Red Robin and I had the grilled chickie salad again - it’s a good one! Now that we’re home, I have a few things to check on line, then back downstairs to paint the doors.
I’d ordered some USB-C charging cables - 10’ long! OOOPS! Luckily, they all have little velcro straps, so I can just release the length I need. It was going to be a real issue in the car, but FCD has a shorter one he wants to be rid of - we’re gonna trade. Yeah, first world problems again.
Flyboy - I started making my scrambled egg with water instead of milk and I find I like them better that way. They seem to be fluffier. Not that it matters a lot when I roll them up in a tortilla, but there ya go.
And last night, I finished the first Anna Pigeon murder mystery - I didn’t have it all figured out so, yeah, good one! I’ve downloaded the next one already.
I find they’re fluffier if I use heavy cream. Of course I whisk (well, fork) the hell out of them.
And which one would that be?
Both my kids have asked me to make BLTs for our trip to Chattanooga Thursday. I really cannot wait - I don’t remember the last time I had bacon. I 100% agree: there is no more perfect food than a BLT (with, perhaps the exception of hot, fresh-baked bread slathered in butter).
One more ‘agreed’. Pass the butter please.
