I’ve taken to opening the garage first thing in the morning and closing it just before we go to bed - to keep it from becoming an oven!! I store my Diet Cokes on a shelf out there, but I’m thinking I may need to find a place inside so they don’t get all funky from the heat. Tho maybe it takes longer for them to go funky - I don’t know for sure.
On July 18, my mom is having a family Christmas in July gathering, and it will include a White Elephant exchange. I’m trying to find a couple of cool items for us to get rid of, but why would I get rid of the cool stuff?? I came across an old clock radio that still works, and I have a bunch of glasses that I was going to donate to the thrift store, but I might just box them up. There are also a couple of semi-ugly lamps, but I might actually clean them up and use them in the basement, if I can find a couple of lampshades that fit them. Anyway, since it’s about 2 anna half weeks to the party, I need to get serious about the elephants.
Plan of the day - clean up the basement. I’ve got tools spread thither and yon, Roxy’s toys are in a state of disarray, and I need to set the new TV where she can’t knock it over - obviously we haven’t installed it yet. I think I’ll also do a general tidy upstairs - there’s random crap all over the place that I really should put away. And I can push the vacuum thru the main traffic areas while I’m at it.
FCD has a design review meeting this morning, which will keep him out of my way. Roxy will be over some time after 3 to be babysat upon. And I think I need to water the planters on my back porch. So it’ll be another busy one. At least I can be in the a/c while I’m busy!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’! YAWN 'Tis 73 Amurrkin out and foggy with a predicted high of 88 with rain/tstorms/apocalypse for the day. The big plan of the day is to lay in provisions. Other than that we shall continue to work on our sloth skills. Sup shall be chili/cheese/onion/slaw dawgs 'n fries. Fartfest to follow.
Nettie you need to get outta that place soonest.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Temps reached 88 degrees here yesterday which is reasonable as compared to 105, I guess. It was still warm, but at least the sun didn’t feel like it was burning a hole through me. I can’t wait for temps to drop back down into the 70s, but that’s going to be a while yet.
Is it just me, or does this week feel incredibly long? I swear, yesterday felt like it should have been Thursday. Ah well, I only have to get through today and tomorrow.
Nettie, I really hope you get out of that hellhole ASAP. I know full well what working in a toxic environment does to one’s soul and HEALTH. You need to get out of there.
I have a lot of problems to solve at work today. It would be nice to just have a couple of days of nothing to worry about, stuff going smoothly, and catch up on some basic stuff. But nope, not gonna happen. I need to head into the office next week. I really, really donwanna. But, stuff needs catching up there and I noted some boxes sitting on my desk when I returned my GOV this weekend. So, I need to scan the shipping slips and disperse said contents of boxes to the appropriate people. Also, I’m looking for the 18 monitors that I ordered. They’re not there yet and I’m a little concerned.
Well, I guess I should cruise some more news sites before I head upstairs to the office. Also time for a second cup of coffee.
Morning all. No soccer games on TV until Friday, so may actually do some things about the house. Have made up the shopping list for the Great July Shopping Trip Thorsday, will probably be adding to it as I think of things. Supposed to get near 90F again today, maybe some rain this afternoon (and maybe not).
Taters, yeah, hopefully you can track the monitors down, prioritize and get that desk cleaned off…been there, done that.
Nettie, echoing what you already know…hope you can find some other position around the town and get the H-E-double toothpicks out of that place.
This phase of the basement is done - I tidied, then hung assorted paintings and prints. Here’s the chalkboard doors:
The container next to the left door is full of chalk. There are more pics on my FB - friend me if you so desire.
And now, time to attack the disaster that is upstairs. Specifically the dining room where my sewing stuff is spread thither and yon. I need a house gnome to clean up after my projects.
No park today. Dogs went straight to daycare.
From what I understand, Echo behaves beautifully at daycare and the people there are surprised that she would fight with other dogs.
I think I am the problem.
It’s hot out, and I know, all things considered, I probably should not complain about the heat.
I have to go to the MVA today to get my REAL ID.
I’m taking way more paper irk than I need because you never know what can happen when one is dealing with government agencies. Besides, I used to irk for DOT, which at that time was in the main MVA building. I know the level of incompetency that exists there.
Nettie, have not had time to read your other post, but I will when I get back.
Along with all the other stuff that needs to be done today.
At least the mortgage-refinance people are happy. It was more of a communication problem as opposed to losing paper irk problem. They want my business bank statements, of which I have none. I don’t have a business. I am a contractor and so my paychecks go into my personal account. I have NO losses, and my only expense is the land line, for which I don’t have a separate bill because it is included with the internet.
I still have to get through all the rental car bs.
Nettie, another person chiming in that I hope you get out of your situation as quickly as possible.
FCM, your basement looks incredible.
'Tis a grey and gross day with thunder in the distance. I’m frantically cleaning up our crap between meetings in advance of our trip. The husband unit is a bit baffled but he’s gotten to the point where he can appreciate not coming home to a tornado.
We’ve come to a compromise on stopping - we’ll stop somewhere in Kentucky to get a solid hour-long hike in but we’ll take a picnic instead of doing a full sit-down meal at a restaurant. That way the legs are stretched, everyone’s butt has a chance to regain feeling, but we’re not spending tons of money. Then we’ll stay in Chattanooga and go to the aquarium. And the next day we may stop again at the Georgia Aquarium because aquariums are amazing.
Anyway, back to work. That last day before vacation always sucks.
Thanks! There are still a few more things that need to be done - like mounting the new TV and installing the cabinet over the sink, but the worst of it is done. It’s become a very comfortable living space, and it’ll be great when I’ve got both grands with me.
Then, at the other end of the basement is my studio that’s still a disaster. But I’ll get to it…
Home from the MVA.
They were nice, but it took forever.
I overheard another customer complain, what is the point of having appointments if you still have to sit and wait?
My appointment was for 10:30, I got taken at 11:45.
I had to fill out a survey in front of the clerk, and I did not lie. The wait got a sad face, but she got a happy face.
On the way home I had to deal with a homeless man trying to make eye contact with me at a stop sign. He did look pretty bad, but I don’t carry cash so nothing to do for him anyway.
Although one day a man approached me while I was sitting at a red light and asked for money. I told him, sorry, I don’t carry cash. He suggested that I meet him at the ATM across the road. No, I don’t think so, and I don’t carry a debit card either.
I do carry a credit card, from which there probably is a way to get cash, but I don’t know how and I’m sure not paying the fees.
Not as bad as the experience of one of my friends. He told the homeless guy he doesn’t carry cash, so the homeless guy held out his cell phone and it had one of those attachments that you can run your card through.
High tech homeless.
It’s nice to have dogs that want to protect us, Doggio. If only they understood when we don’t need protecting.
My son has to irk tonight. I think I hate his irk days more than he does.
I’d take that bet. Mom, I first saw your basement pic(s) on my phone and thought “Yow! What’s that four-legged duck with redd clown hair?” I’m glad to see it’s just a cow effigy. Whew!
Oh! Looking good!
It’s 67f and cloudy outside at 10:25 am. It’s supposed to get to 81 though, so I’m going out and finish the mowing I started last week when the lawnmower died. The lawnmower fixer guy said it’s the ethanol in the gas. It’s hydroscopic and sucks moisture outta the air and then it separates in the carburetor. There’s more to it than that, but the bottom line is: put ethanol-free gas in your lawnmower.
(My spell checker doesn’t know how to spell hydroscopic, sheesh!)
I gave Roxy a bunch of fake Solo cups to play with, and she put 4 of them on her cow. And, naturally, the cow needed her Fire House Subs hat, too, right?
Change of plans - I’ll be watching Roxy at her house so she can stay on her schedule. FCD will dine alone and I’ll take a can of soup with me because I’ve finally gotten my dining discipline back and I wasn’t about to do pizza.
So, 90 minutes to kill…
PS - sari - you need to make that boy get his license!! Tough love!!
But if he had his license and his own car, I would not have to rent one.
Although if he did have his own car, he’d probably kill me if I let the dogs ride in it.
None of the critters are even allowed in his bedroom as they might get hair on something. Letting them in his car would cause him to spaz out.
He packed a lunch and he doesn’t need it. The company is supplying lunch tonight.
I was telling Mrs. Cardigan one year about how I thought the ones that just made a boom with no pyrotechnic flash were ‘duds’ when I was a kid. She said she thought the same thing when she was a kid. Is this a fairly common belief?
Howdy Y’all! Been an off and on rainy day here with more to come it would seem. Tomorrow and Firday look to be the same way. I am hopin’ to accomplish mowage one of those days. We shall see. We laid in provisions and I took care of some church janitor Junior Warden duties over to the church house. Also, I gassed up twuck and got gas for the mowers as well. Sup got cooked and et. I even managed nappage and some sloth. I am a multi-taskin’ go getter I am!
wordy, are you going to See Rock City while you’re in ChooChooTown? We used to go there when we’d go to east Tennessee and North Carolina as a kid. I’ve been there a couple of times since living in Tennessee and kind of like its kitsch.
sari, Nelson is a little like that. I can take him out in public, but here at home (that extends to the whole complex), if I’m with him, he has to bark at almost any human or animal around. I asked maintenance and the apartment manager if he gave them any issues when they came in (he’s crated if I know they’ll be here while I’m at irk) and they both said no. He’s guarding me with all of his 15.5#.
Irked late, picked Nelson up from the sitter ~6, et and will chill after KP.
Evening all. Took a long hot bath early this afternoon and made the mistake of laying down for a nap…nappage became sleepage and I was out for about 2.5 hours. Have retrieved mail (and got my new (replacement) Social Security Card. They say not to carry it around, which I did for my original one since the age of 18, so I might get a copy made and laminated so I can have it on hand (why, I don’t know–call it old habits die hard).
Sari, I applied for my STAR ID on my license, it took about 45 minutes to see folks (no appointments here), but it was pretty simple and I should be getting it in a week or so. Of course they keep setting back the deadline (I think it’s sometime in 2023 now), so how much good it does is still up in the air.
FCM, lovely place for a little one, the more things to interest her the better, IMHO.
