Just curious: has anyone heard from shoe? Just wondering since she hasn’t posted in awhile.
Last I heard @purplehorseshoe was busy as a screen door valet, letting her kitties in and out, according to their shifting whims.
Up. Caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. I lost power for 3 minutes due to a thundwrstorm earlier
Blue sky today, and no work! Lots of things to do, though.
Laundry (towels and delicates)
Drop off old clothing
Order new glasses (hubby got variable lenses for walking and driving, but still doesn’t like them after 9 months, so he’s getting single focus for driving)
Pick up a prescription
Clean the bathrooms (already done)
Pick up eggs (farm) and ice cream (bakery)
Get more cables for the behemouth computer which was delivered yesterday
Paperwork
So much for a day off. But it means Saturday and Sunday will be more relaxed. And it might rain in the evening on Saturday and Sunday, so I don’t even have to water the plants. Definitely a win in my opinion.
Probably have to clean something else. And vacuum (which I still don’t know if it’s spelled correctly, unless I google it first).
It feels like we’re getting close to being normalized, albeit with masks in certain places, and I hope we don’t get our hopes dashed once again.
Hugs to those who need them.
We must have had a power burp overnight - when I came out to tend to the critters, my UPS was shrieking. Dunno how long it had been doing that, but poor critters!!! So I started my day by climbing under my desk with a flashlight to reset the stoopit thing. It worked, obviously, because here I am!
We’ve had some loverly rain since the wee small hours - a nice, gentle shower. Unless, of course, there were t-boomers that didn’t rouse me - I was pretty tired last night. It’s 68° outside, but still upper 70s in the house, despite having all the windows open. I just set a fan in one, sucking the cool air into the living room - hope that will help. I also hope the HVAC tech comes early. All I know is they’ll call me an hour out - so I won’t be going anywhere till they show up. No biggie.
I’ve got miscellaneous chores I can tend to - mostly cleaning and tidying. Some sewing. I foresee a random day ahead. The rain is supposed to be over by about 8, with some chances of random showers thru the day, but no big deal. So onward!!
Happy Firday!!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 73 Amurrkin out and foggy with a predicted high of 86 and rainy for the day. It rained some overnight as everytthing is all wet outside. Today I shall head over to the church house to deal with some church janitor Junior Warden duties. We shall be bears who N.O.,L. and go to the not too shabby Chinese hog trough buffet. Any other need to feed today will be via forage. We shall also prep some foodstuffs for tomorrow’s mini soiree out at the cee-mint pond. I shall make N.O.T. sallit and prep the baked beans. OYKW shall make a cheesecake. That should be enough stuff to keep us outta trouble for the day.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas, alack, and bother of bothers, I suppose I shall purtify and don appropriate bein’ about the public attire. Life can be so hard!
Happy Firday Y’all!
I’ve been having problems, and went into “hermit” mode.
That you noticed, well, that warms my heart.
{{{shoe}}} - lots of shoulders here to whine on if you need to - or PM if you want to keep your whines more private. We’ve all been there in some form or another.
Happy Firday!
Although it feels like it should be Saturday.
Gloomy and soggy, but cool, morning at the dog park.
Two new dogs showed up. Echo was fine with the first one, even let me pet him. The second one, I decided it was time to go. We’d been there for 2 hours anyway.
Stressful day yesterday. My friend’s new rescue dog got loose.
I posted it to FB as my friend isn’t on there. Another friend saw it and posted it to a lost dog page. Within minutes there were sightings of Ruby. Unfortunately, because Ruby came from a bad situation where she was used as a breeder dog and had lived her whole life in a cage, she is terrified of people she doesn’t know. She is terrified of everything. My friend saw her, but Ruby ran from her too. Probably so scared she didn’t recognize her. I took some time off irk to go help look for her, but by then Ruby had been running for hours. I think she probably got tired and was hiding out in the trees.
I’ll go back over today to help look for her.
Other than that, nothing to do today but the usual irk and houseirk.
HVAC Tech is on his way - WOOHOO!!!
And it’s still raining - woohoo!
The marine layer has stayed in place these last couple of days and is in place again this morning. It’s supposed to reach 84 today and the clouds are supposed to clear in the afternoon. We’ll see, they haven’t cleared at all. Which, I’m okay with. Tomorrow and Sunday call for the mid to high 80s.
They have banned fireworks in many areas due to the heat and tinder-dry conditions, but my county has decided to let them be discharged in the unincorporated part, and I live in unincorporated Pierce County. Last night, people were discharging them and I wasn’t pleased. Mainly because I smelled smoke from something besides fireworks all day yesterday and the day before. Stupid people. Ugh…stupid county leaders. Not that banning them stops people from discharging them, but I would like to see them banned and big fines levied. We suffered some big wildfires last year, and people lost homes. You’d think that people would remember that, but nooooooo, we must have big bang-bangs 'cause Murrica.
I’m off work, but I will probably have to jump on my work computer either today or tomorrow. I need to finish some stuff up just to save my sanity.
Sorry to hear about the rescue dog, Sahirrnee, I hope she’s found.
Sorry to hear you’ve been having problems, shoe. I hope things are improving.
Sari, sad to hear about the runaway dog. My nephew’s bloodhound (his younger one) ran away and he finally had to get a trapper to lure him into a cage and bring him home. Hope they can get the dog back, sounds like she’s had a miserable life and needs the comfort.
shoe, Take care. We’re here.
FCM, it was wet when I stepped outside to get the paper this morning, so we probably got some rain last night too. It’s all gone now, less than a 5% chance of rain today and headed for 86F.
It’s been relatively quiet around here, nobody (at least in my hearing) has been shooting off fireworks, but I expect it’ll start this evening and continue most of the weekend. Oh joy.
Spent a few dollars and booked my second ‘mini-vacation’ of the summer. Fly to Boston, take the train from Boston-New York-Miami (bedroom car), spend a couple days there and have tours of the Everglades and Key West (hey, BUTTERS!!–if you’re reading this, I’ll be in your neighborhood the 24th) already booked. Went whole hog (flying first class, real nice hotels) and still was below budget. Still waiting for 2022 and a major trip or two (major is defined as 2 weeks or more on the road). I’ll be sure to wave to FCM, doggio, and swampy as the train rolls South.
And that was quite enough activity. Soccer is back on the television today and I have several first-of-the-month bills to pay, so life goes on.
Well, my guess was wrong. The capacitor is fine. But associated stuff isn’t, to the tune of $600. He mentioned a kicker motor and something else I don’t remember. Considering the system was installed new in 2006, I know we’re living on borrowed time now anyway, but the 2 new thingies he needs to install should, at minimum, get us thru this heating season. Meanwhile, we need to brace ourselves for a new system in the near future.
So while Jacob installs the new stuff, I’m having lunch. Once he’s done, I’ll head to the Amish market - they claim to have sweet corn! And I need 'maters, since mine haven’t ripened yet. Supper will be ham steak, corn, salad, and maybe green beans/onions/'shrooms.
And that’s what’s going on here. Rah.
Thanks, y’all. I’m … well, not getting there, but working on getting there, how’s that?
To answer the OP topic:
I find it unsettling that we celebrate war veterans, and war victories (I mean, we did win the original Revolution in the end) by … blowing more shit up.
My feelings about the irony that celebrating our troops (this rant is more about Memorial Day weekend) triggers so much PTSD - not to mention the anguish of millions of dogs & other pets - is best expressed in The Pit.
I’m not exactly a ray of sunshine today, am I?
I like a well-done professional fireworks show (depending on the seating, crowd, traffic, etc).
I am not a fan of every drunk redneck in my neighborhood stocking up on pyro mortars at Costco and starting the celebrations 2 weekends before and after every holiday, and going well past midnight.
and whoever decided Thanksgiving is now a fireworks holiday can go shoot themselves out of a cannon into a soggy hay bale.
It rained again, and it was a bleesed 67 degrees when I left. Dragged Princess Pretty Paws out, and did some laundry. Naptime.
Please be a social hermit now and again, so we don’t worry so much

Eeek! about the HVAC, Mooommmm!.
Hope they find Ruby, sari.
‘Member when my AC stopped working a few weeks ago? That’s what mine needed~my tech called it a ‘starter assist module’. Cost $343 and is, just like yours, designed to buy me time. Mine could irrevocably kick the bucket at any time too. I hate adulting.
When I lived in Cook County (IL), I got summoned every 3 to 5 years or so. Then I moved to Will County and didn’t get called once in 13 years. Here in San Francisco County it’s every 2 years like clockwork. In SF, I’ve only had to physically appear once though; you call the night before to see if you have to go in.
WE HAVE A/C!!!
That’s gotta be a relief!
