How do you add money from your bank account to Paypal?

I have a Canadian bank account, and would like to put some money into Paypal from my bank account. I have done this successfully before, but they recently changed the site, and I’ve tried hard but can’t figure out how to add money anymore.

Why do you want to do this? Why not instead let them pull money from your account when you make a purchase?

Here are the instructions:

Thanks.

It says on that page you linked,
Here’s how to add money from your confirmed bank account:
Log in to your PayPal account.
Click Add money under your PayPal balance.
Select your bank account (if you have more than one), enter the amount to transfer and click Add.

So I logged into my account and clicked on “Add money,” then clicked where it said “Banks and cards” because there wasn’t a way to immediately select my bank account. It brought me to a page called “Wallet.” On that page, there was a link to my bank account, which merely showed me details about my bank account, and link saying “Add money,” which did nothing. So I’m back where I started from, with still no idea how to add money to my account.

Just by poking around on my account, I went to “Wallet” at the top, then “Add Money” on the left under my PayPal balance. Then it asked me to confirm my identity by entering some info, but after that I was given a page with my bank and a box to type in the amount.

This seems to be happening in Ajax, so you may be having Javascript issues with your browser if you press “Add Money” and nothing happens. I would try another browser.

I’m in the US btw so of course things may be different for you.

I usually use Chrome. I just tried it with Firefox, and ran into the same trouble I’ve been having. Oddly, “Withdraw money” works, but not “Add money.”

According to this link:

it is no longer possible to transfer funds directly from a bank account to a Paypal account. (What the @#$!??!!) You apparently have to now link a credit or debit card to your PayPal account.

I just tried adding $100 from my bank account to my paypal and it is going through fine.

Going up the chain you go to Add money to my account, then going back down to How Do I Top Up my Paypal Account you get:
Sorry, the option to Top Up is currently unavailable for Thailand. However, you can send payments using a debit or credit card linked to your PayPal account.

I think either the Help is messed up or you did a Google search which ended up with the Help for Thailand–and lots of countries are more restrictive with Paypal than the U.S., etc.

But again why does the OP want to add money to his Paypal account from his bank account? I avoid this as I want all my payments to be funded via credit or (Visa/MC) debit card as I want the protection they provide–Visa and Mastercard provide strong protection for buyers; Paypal’s protection is marginal.

(The OP is me, and I’m female.)

I just wanted to have enough money in my Paypal account to make online purchases with it. My credit card is good for that kind of thing, but it has its limits.

Set your bank account up as a payment method from within Paypal. It’s been so long since I did it I don’t remember exactly how to do it but that is how you pay from your bank account via Paypal. Actually, they forced me to do so after having purchased X # of dollars worth of goods.

That’s odd. I wonder if it’s only for certain areas or types of accounts. I have some recurring payments that require payment from balance. I always assumed I could transfer some in if I took too much out or lost some revenue.

Right after you login to Paypal, click in “Banks and Cards” > “Link a bank account”

My bank account is linked already, though.

Sorry, I don’t understand the problem, then.

My problem, simply put, is that I can’t figure out a way to add money. Though I did come across that link I posted earlier in the thread that said it’s no longer possible to transfer money from my bank account to Paypal, so maybe it’s just something that can’t be done.

When you use the Paypal option to pay for something you select your bank account and the funds will be deducted from your account upon completion of the transaction.

I pay for online purchases all the time via PayPal. It is linked to my bank account and the funds come out automatically.

Could the problem you are having be a Canada thing?

That’s what I was going to ask. As long as I’ve used it (been going on, I dunno, ten years or so?) I don’t ever remember having to deposit money into my Paypal account in the US. You just link an account, Paypal verifies it, and then when you send money, you just log in and send money. You don’t have to “feed” the account. (Or at least I’ve never had to here in the US.) Perhaps with Canadian banks it’s different?

I guess I didn’t realize PayPal could take money out of your own bank account, and I thought it had to be put into the online Paypal account.

I know that sometimes when I sell things online, the money goes into my Paypal account.

Yeah, my recollection is that the few times I’ve received money via Paypal, it sits in that account until I explicitly move it to my bank account. Otherwise, with payments I make, I’ve never had to move money explicitly from my bank into the Paypal account. (That said, I just logged into my account to see, and I do have a big “Add Money” option available to me, should I wish to do so, but I’ve never needed to do that. Not sure why you’re not getting that option. I see it right under the Paypal balance ($0.00 for me). I have options to “Add Money” or “Transfer to Bank.”)
