While I honestly don’t have the answer, I thought I’d chime in seeing as how no one else has yet. Surely Paypal can answer this question, which I doubt would show up in an faq, but they do have a cust service number. If you’re talking about an ebay purchase, and have the credit card set up as a “secondary pay method” than the answer could really go either way depending on how you look at it. OK, so I’m no help at all, but would strongly recommend calling Paypal for a real answer.
That is generally how it works, yes. And if your limit is $50, the transaction just won’t go through if it doesn’t work that way. If the latter is a problem, I’d agree with Shig and just call to make sure.
I first funded my Pay Pal account through a checking account. It took about four days for funds to be available for a purchase. But now that I’ve done that a few times, I don’t have to have funds transferred from the bank account prior to making a Pay Pal purchase. So even though there is ZERO money in my Pay Pal account, I still can use it to instantly buy things from Ebay, for instance. Pay Pal just transfers the money from the bank account in the exact amount of the purchase, and it immediately goes to the payee. The money is in Pay Pal’s hands for an instant only.
(NB: These purchases have never been for more than $200 at a time.)
I’ve had my both saving and credit card charged on many occasions without issue, however one time I’ve been hit with a “insufficient funds” fee on my saving account so now ensure there is sufficient funds to cover the transaction
The only time I’ve had money in my account was from refunds - but every time there has been some money there, Paypal used the money from my Paypal account first, and the rest was taken from my normal funding source (my bank account.)
I made the purchase, delaying until my money transfered through. Since it was a computer part from tigerdirect, I didnt want a failed transaction. When I made the purchase it said it would use an alternate source for any outstanding balance, my bank account.
That isnt really what I wanted, but you get what you get when it comes to paypal I guess.
I’ll order a CD to test the fall back since its less important.
Sorry. I missed that his bank account was attached to it. I would have told him to detach it temporarily, make the purchase, and then attach it back when he was finished.
