I would never wear my phone on a belt clip. It’s just so dorky and I’ve never needed to quick-draw my phone anyway.
Over 40 belt clip. Way to uncomfortable and inaccessable in a front pants pocket. A back pocket would crush the thing eventually.
My shirts and jackets are so varied, I never have a ‘same’ pocket that I could use. With a belt clip, I always know where it is. Have never misplaced or broken a cell phone.
Pretentious? WTF? Everybody over 10yo has a cell phone.
Over 40. Have had phones for almost 20 years now. The small ones usually went in a belt clip.
My modern smartphones have always lived in a pants pocket. Modern men’s slacks have inner pockets for that purpose. My casual pants are mostly cargo shorts which are great for phones.
I also have a small waterproof floating pouch on a neck strap for use at the beach. It’s nice to go swimming without being concerned about some passing scumbag snagging my phone.
I don’t even normally wear belts. Women’s pants don’t really need them and to be 100% honest I am not sure of the use of them. Why don’t your pants stay up by themselves? But I put my cellphone in a case, in my purse.
Men - especially men over 40 - suffer from an aging process called “Disappearing Butt Syndrome”. This, often exacerbated by “Overhanging Gut Protrusion”, leads to pants that won’t stay up without a belt, suspenders, or prayers.
Yup.
Belt clips are pretty much relegated to older, dorky IT guys in my experience.
Over 40. Pants or jacket pocket.
I wish someone would invent elegant phone holsters that clipped or velcroed around our upper arms. They exist for runners, but those are designed so that the phone is hard to get out. And they are ugly sporty things.
Ideally, they would attach to a women’s purses strap when that is carried over het shoulder. So arm holster and purse strap keep each other in place.
For now, I just put the damn thing in my bra. Getting it out is the new stocking straightening
Didn’t vote. I’m over 40 and rarely carry mine so none of the options were really right. Its either in the car or one of my saddlebags for emergencies. When I do have it on me (say hunting or fishing) it has a simple case and I drop it in whatever pocket is handy. Its basically an older flip phone.
I carry mine in a case in my purse. I only take it out when I want to use it.
I will not be on call 24/7 for anyone.
Over 40 here. I keep my smartphone on a belt clip because I have keys and other things in my pockets that would scratch my screen, plus I don’t want to have to fish around my pocket to answer my phone just to find that I lost the call.
If that makes me a “older, dorky IT guy” then so be it.
I can tell you’re over 40 if you carry a checkbook. I use a credit card or debit card for everything except when I have to mail a check.
That would be me.
I don’t like filling my pockets. I just find it uncomfortable. I carry a small shoulder bag so I just have coins in my right front pocket. Everything else is in the bag, which I have used since I was 22 (not the same bag all those years). That way I only have to remember to take one thing when I leave the house. Well, two, because the phone doesn’t fit in the bag.
Ok. But why do younger men wear them? My SO has worn them all his life and I don’t know why - he wears pants that fit him. I will ask him tonight.
I sometimes use a belt because it looks a little better with a dress shirt and jeans. Or, after about 3 wearings, my jeans start to stretch out a bit and a belt helps.
Don’t need the belt for the ‘belt’ clip. I just clip it to the side of my pants.
I’m 58, and use the exact same thing - but I called it a belt clip for purposes of this poll.
Was I wrong to make that assumption?
I have what’s called a wallet case for my phone and I keep it in the front pocket of my handbag. If I’m going somewhere that I’m not carrying a bag, I can just grab the wallet case and pop it into a jacket pocket. I keep a few bills and a front door key in the wallet pocket.
I have never understood why so many people carry phones in a hip pocket. I carry my iPhone in my left, front pants pocket. I have never had a problem.
I hate the idea of a phone holster. I already have to wear a clunky badge that gets in the way now and then. It would be far worse to have a huge chuck of plastic sticking out from my belt.
I used to use a belt clip at work for my work phone (I didn’t have a personal phone, didn’t need it). Now that I’m retired, I make sure all my trousers have some kind of extra pocket into which I can put my personal phone. Or it goes in the front pocket which also has my keys.
Most of my pants are either cargo or carpenter, so my phone goes into the right side pocket. Nothing goes in my back pockets.
In my purse or back pocket if I’m not carrying my purse.
