How do YOU celebrate Quinquagesima Sunday?

I noticed Quinquagesima Sunday is coming up on March 2 and I wanted to be prepared.
What is the proper way to prepare for Quinquagesima Sunday?

Well, my church dropped it, along with Sexagesima and Septuagesima Sundays, back in 1979.

FWIW, what it’s supposed to be is a “pre-Lenten period” when you prepare yourself for Lent – which is itself a period of spiritual preparation for Holy Week and Easter. And somehow, preparing to prepare is just a bit much!

From my childhood I remember that on Quinquagesima Sunday we made an excursion to pick birch twigs. In the evening we decorated those twigs with multicoulored feathers, and the bouquets were the decoration of our home until Easter. But at that time we exchanged the content of the vases into twigs forced in the corner by the stove. They were in that way filled with very small light green birch leaves.

Sounds a nice tradition. Wouldn’t get too far in today’s consume-crazy society, though.
