How do you create a link to Google Maps with your saved zoom settings?

Google is frustrating me this morning. I finally got this link to a map but Google isn’t remembering my zoom setting or the map placement on the screen.

I’ve seen other people link to zoomed maps. Whats the secret?

I already found one Google bug. I searched on 2631 Retreat View Circle, Sanford, Seminole, Florida 32771. Google gave me this “helpful” suggestion to pick the address with View Cir. Fine. I accepted the correction.

Getting this worthless map link. :smack: The URL never gets updated when you accept Googles suggestion. I had to finally close the Tab and start over to get the right URL. That is beyond frustrating.

Just to the left of the extreme upper left corner of the map, there are two little boxes containing mystical arcane devices. The right one (looks like two little boxes) will display the link to your zoomed site. (The other one is for Abracacabra.) Hover on it and it will reveal that it signified “Link”. Click that and copy and save the URL link. Also works for saving streeview views.

However, once you navigate away from that page, you can never never get back to it and you have to start your painstaking search all over again to recover it.

Thats much better. Thanks! I’ll use that from now on.

Old thread and same/similar question, but gMaps’ UI may have changed because I do not see the little boxes described by jtur88. I searched on “map” in GQ titles and this seemed closest without starting a new thread. Maybe I should have done that…

I want to fix the parameters for Lat, Long, and Zoom level for several maps so that I can page through them quickly to show different trip segments while the map stays fixed from page to page (tab to tab in the browser) – so the map doesn’t jump around from tab to tab.

Example:

For this entire route,

I want to show the following four partial segments all with these parameters:
@41.2805,-122.2852,7z

  1. Google Maps

  2. Google Maps

  3. Google Maps

  4. Google Maps

But when I paste those parameters into the URLs and load the pages, gMaps often changes them. Annoying. Those parameters are in all of the above URLs, but when the pages load gMaps recenters and/or changes the zoom level. I want those fixed.

If you try these URLs, hopefully your maps don’t jump around, and you can tab-to-tab to see the trip segments while the map stays fixed. Or maybe not. I suspect it may be some caching issue that is preventing me to fix Lat / Long / Zoom.

I’ve tried this before, with sporadic success. Sometimes it works, and sometimes not. When it works, I think it looks cool tabbing from map to map. How to do it consistently is my question.

I’m using Chrome, if it matters.

But even when I paste the URLs into MS Edge, sometimes the parameters change. I just tried it again and they changed.
