How do you finish a hooked rug?

I hooked a rug for the SO. I thought that it would match the 70s chic vibe going on in our camper. (It’s from 1977 - it comes by the vibe naturally).

So, it’s all hooked but now I’m not sure what you’re supposed to do with it. Do you just trim off the extra webbing around the picture? Frame it? Glue it on fabric and hang it?

I really have no idea what the standard finishing technique is.

According to this, the standard finishing technique is to bind the edges (contains instructions).

I used to just fold the extra webbing over and sew it to the backing that was used for the rug. Maybe trim off some of the extra if there was a whole lot, but leave maybe 2 inches to fold over. I never actually framed one. I did find a few ways to hang them on walls. It seems like you could just nail or tack it up–the yarn would hide the nails or pins.

For a van? Sew a backing on and make it a love pillow!

Harriet’s absolutely right, but might I add one suggestion? Put rug binding (paint on or iron on) onto the back of the rug. It will keep the rug from slipping out from under your feet. One source: http://herrschners.com/products/product.aspx?sku=132300

Love, Phil

Hummm - this love pillow seems like a good idea. However, there’s an actual wall in the camper that the SO had in mind to hang his rug on.

Maybe I’ll try folding it over and sewing, and if that doesn’t work I’ll try the backing.
