How do you get rid of a bloodblister? (Medical Question)

This thread isn’t as gross as it might first seem (I hope). Also, I don’t think the word ‘bloodblister’ is quite right applied to this but I’m unsure what else to call it.

Imagine a spot about the size of a pinhead (or just slightly larger) that is slightly raised above the surrounding skin. The spot is red and seemingly due to blood inside and not a pigment thing. The little bugger is completely painless, in an out of the way spot and not even all that unsightly (although not attractive either). Still, it annoys me just the same and has been hanging around for at least a year now.

Anyway to get rid of it barring a doctor/hospital visit?

My sister had something similar removed from her leg. It was a bunch of capilaries, iirc. It was painless unless she caught it with a razor, in which case is was hard to make it stop bleeding. She simply got it removed for cosmetic reasons. I don’t think there is a non-surgical solution to these things.

If I’m reading your description right, it sounds like an angioma. My doctor called the ones on my arms and chest “cherry angiomas,” which is a term I do not see in Merck, but which is nevertheless very descriptive both of the color and very round shape, though, like your description, they are very small, almost like I’ve been poking myself with a red ink pen.

Sorry, missed the question. My doctor indicated that they were nothing to worry about. I suppose if you had cosmetic reasons (as above), you could pursue it.

This may be what I have but maybe not so a bit more description.

The little bump doesn’t look like it has veins in it. Rather, it merely looks like a slightly raised dome of skin with blood underneath. I will say that it did get cut once and bled like mad…enough that I started to get concerned figuring that such a little thing should have bled so profusely.

Hey! I just had one of these, and it kind of concerned me because it looked exactly like a birthmark. Two little pin-prick circles on the palm of my hand. Looked like it was on the surface of my skin, but I couldn’t scratch 'em off. I’ve no idea whence they came, and I started looking at old pictures wondering if I’ve always had these marks and just managed not to notice them for 27 years. Anyhow, they get rid of themselves. I waited about two weeks, and one came off and then several days later, the second one came off. Just give it a little time.

Thanks KneadToKnow. I followed the link you provided and I don’t think angioma is what I have but of course I’m no expert. It really is just like a teeny bloodblister except it is small and persistent.

I know the ultimate answer is to have a doctor look at it and tell me what’s up but there is a part of me (big part actually) that was hoping someone would tell me to smear some miracle cream like Bacitracin or something on it and it’d just go away. I’m not sure it’s worth the efforts of the medical community (although next time I see my doctor I’ll be sure to ask as I’m there anyway).

Oh, sorry Whack. I missed the all-important “hanging about for a year” line. Eh, college skimming habits die hard, I guess.

I’m not complete certain it’s a angioma either whack-a-mole, but i can tell you for certain i have ones of these as well. I have had it for about ten year. When i first noticed it I thought it was a scab of some sort, and (TMI coming up here…) tried to pick it. The thing would not stop bleeding for hours.

Anyways, mine looks like a mole. It’s has height (perhaps 1 millimeter), is perhaps 1-2millimeters accross, is round and dome-ish in shape and is red/pink in color.

If it still bleeds when you poke it, and it has been there for a year, then run, do not walk, to your doctor.

I’ve just popped mine before with a pin, let it bleed out, then just let it heal over. It may leave a little tiny mark, but its better than a raised blister.

Doesn’t bleed at all unless you cut it (as I did once accidentally). Pretty much the same as the skin anywhere else on your body.

What I’m trying to say is that it is not a blood blister. If it is red, and can bleed, and has been there for a year, it may be something nasty. Blood blisters dry up and peel (or flake) off after a while. What you’ve got sounds like it has a blood supply.

Say, where is Qadgop, anyway?

Qadgop was staying out because kneadtoknow pretty much hit the nail on the head.

Here’s a nice picture

 :o

Thanks (to kneadtoknow too). That is what I have afterall. From the earlier description I read it sounded like angioma was like those rasberry birthmark like stains some people have but I guess it is broader than that.

Also, good to know it is harmless as well and only really needs removal for cosmetic purposes if that.

Hmm I thought I had something like this some time ago. I was driving with a friend of mine and was troubuled by what I thought was a cold sore. I opened my mouth to take a loot at it in the mirror in the car and there was this reddish purplish bump on the inside of my mouth. I started poking it with my finger and all of the sudden it exploded, shooting a jet of blood out my mouth and all over the dashboard. My friend was scared out of his gourd; he damn near jumped through the roof of the car when all this blood shot out my mouth. But I was fine; poking it didn’t hurt and when the blood squirted out the whole thing went away.
