How do you get the cheat window for Sim Ant?

My 7 year old is currently in love with Sim Ant and we’ve found the cheats OK but none of the sites I’ve found tell us how to get the cheat window up on screen.

It’s raining here and it’s school holidays. Make a simple mother happy and tell me how to do this or where to go to search… I feel thick.

Sure, I use gamefaqs.com for all the games for all the systems there are.

Is it for PC or Super Nintendo?

PC - sorry, I didn’t realise that you could play the Sim games on Nintendo.

Shoot, there’s a 40-something-year-old here who didn’t even know there were cheat codes for Sim Ant, which is driving her crazy. Make a simple mother happy and tell her more…

OK I thoroughly checked the site that handy recommended (cool site I bookmarked it) but it’s got the same problem as all the rest! It just assumes you know how to bring the window up.

I’ve tried all the other Sim bringing up window thingies we know and they don’t work…

it’s still raining :frowning:

Are you using Windows?

After doing a Search on the gamefaqs site for “Sim Ant”.

This page

http://www.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/data/11298.html

has in the middle “Data Sheet | FAQs and Codes | Message Board” and you click on FAQs and Codes and get this page

http://www.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/game/11298.html

and it’s got 4 FAQs and 2 Codes and Hints. FAQ #1 is from someone named “Steve”. This is evidently a do-it-yourself message board kind of thing, not an official hints thing. Does that help?

[scurries away to fire up the printer]

What browser are you using? I’m using IE5.

::thwaps DDG:: :wink:

I got the site OK, I read the damned FAQ, I read every last thing I could find on Sim Ant. I now hate Sim Ant even more than I hate SimCity.

I can’t find the instructions on how to bring up the cheat window to type the cheats into. ::whimpers:: If you find it I will be eternally grateful.

did I mention it’s school holidays and raining here?

Dang, you’re right, this is a stumper. All I can find on the Web is the instructions to pause the game and type in whatever. Type it in where?

Sorry I can’t be more helpful. Now I’m not happy, either. And it’s almost bedtime here. :frowning:

Have also found this:

What’s an Option key?

Well, I’ve been sitting here for half an hour now, trying out possible keyboard combinations in hopes that something would cause a window to pop up, but no luck. I’ve also visited about 20 “Sim Ant cheat” websites; they all repeat the same “pause the game and type in…” Several also point out that the cheats are case-sensitive, and one general purpose cheat website pointed out that some cheats “require programming knowledge of DOS”.

[insert emoticon for huge yawn]

'night…

Night duck.

You made me feel better anyway. I was completely in disbelief that I couldn’t find it. Misery loves company

Somebody must know!

Not sure if this applies, but in The Sims you press ctrl and c at the same time, or ctrl+alt+c. Same company, different game, but maybe it will work.

Btw, has your son tried The Sims? It’s such a neat game. You get to control ten families in their own little neighborhood. They have jobs, play basketball and chess, and sometimes they even get to adopt a baby. It’s so fun

nooooooooooooooooooooooooo it doesn’t work! I’ve tried the cheats from every Sim game we can find!

I’m holding off on buying The Sims for as long as possible. The combination of that game and the Awful Offspring is not an attractive idea.

He’s just told me his ants are having gladiatorial games. I shudder to think what he would do to the poor Sim families.

OH. My…lets see what they have on the net:

To use a cheat code, press the [Ctrl], [Shift], [Alt] and [C] keys at the same time. This will
bring up a cheat window for you to type a code:

Oh, geez, geez, and double geez.

I ran this past the resident gamester here, age 14 and already knows too much about gaming. He said, “Cheat codes for SimAnt?”
I said, “Yes, we have the codes, but we can’t figure out where to type it in.”
He said, “Doesn’t it just say, ‘pause the game and type it in’?”
I said, “Yes, but where do you type it in?”
He said, “You just type it in.”
I said, “What?”
He said, speaking very slowly, “You… pause… the… game… and then… just… type… it… in…”

A huge sheepish grin permanently installed itself on my face. I raced over to the computer, Loaded SimAnt, paused the game, typed “fred” into the nothingness, and–well, you go try it.

Remember that it’s evidently case-sensitive.

And remember this moment the next time somebody says something ugly about teenagers playing too many computer games.

Hey, that’s how the cheat codes in Doom used to work. Except you didn’t even have to pause the game, you just started typing in the middle of the action. idspispopd, anyone?

handy - nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. That’s for another Sim game.

OK I’m gonna kill the Offspring. I done told that boy to bloody try that yesterday and he told me not to be silly. Then he said he already tried it! Grrrrrrrrrr. Then he went into MS-DOS and tried to do stuff there. What God only knows.

Thanks everybody and thanks Bonzo.

Duck, I was about to suggest that. A couple Starwars games work like that, and maybe the younger people (ie Me) are a little more literal :).
