How do you say "Chick tract" in Spanish?

Stopped for gas last evening, and noticed something sticking out of the crack between the pump and the squeegee well – a Chick tract, en Espanol. Seems to be about the Virgin Mary. (Threw all the stuff on the front seat into the back seat when I picked up a friend later, so I think I left it in the car.)

M&P, but IMS.

I have no idea what that is in english, so hard for me to come up with a translation. What are we talking a bout here?

There can’t be a literal translation to something that is a trade name. Just like there’s no Spanish equivalent for Coca Cola.

Comics in Spanish have different names in different countries, are Chick tracts considered comics?

I´d call it “basura”, “delirio religioso” or “una completa imbecilidad”, but it´s not going to fly on the marketing department…

I can´t come up with an appropiate translation, “Historieta de Chick” would be a rather loose match (Chick´s Comic)

This actually is a Chick Tract™ – Put out by Chick Publications, Ontario, Canada. But it’s in Spanish – “Por Que Llora Maria?” Sorry – my Spanish is way too rudimentary to get much further than that.

ETA: Sapo – they’re fundie Christian religious tracts in comic-strip form; the regular subject of Pit-bashing 'round these parts.

ugh. I am proud of myself for not knowing what they were (now you ruined it, of course)

I might have an answer during the weekend when the bible pushers come a’knocking

I really can’t venture a decent guess. They are probably called IED (Instrumento Educativo Domestico) or a “Simple Historieta Instructiva Tematica”

twicks because it pains me that you may not get to derive all the Chickiness you so richly deserve from the tract you found, please allow me to point you to this English version. No need to thank me. I’m only too glad to do this for ya.

swampy, honey – how can I thank you? Words fail me.

Besides, among the Spanish-speaking market there is not much awareness of the artist Jack Chick, the enterprise Chick Publications, or the trademark Chick Tract. They’re just considered badly-drawn panfletos evangélicos fanáticos by most of the people that encounter them, and the folks that do distribute them (and I think this may also be true of the Anglo market) probably think they just come from some sort of JesusCo Club Big Box Fundamentalist Supplies Warehouse. I only learned of their ID as “Chick Tracts” here at the Dope.

But yes, my very first Chick Tract ever spotted was in Spanish, it was while I was in my teens, and I remember it was left around on a table in a waiting room in or around Pavía Hospital in Santurce. It was the flagship “movie of your life” tract. The most recent one I found in Spanish was the one with the Chaplain in Iraq – man, lemme tell ya, some* severely stilted * Spanish there…

Just knowin’ you now are enlightened about Chickie’s message is thanks enough for me dear.
