How do you sleep? (A poll)

So it has nothing to do with one’s conscience…
What kind of a sleeper are you? Alone, or with someone? A pet or a stuffed animal, maybe?
Do you sprawl out like a starfish, or stay mostly in one position? Side, stomach, or back, or keep on rollin’?
Do you need it really dark or do you prefer a nightlight? Got quilts, heat packs, or makuras?
Do you use something for snoring, apnea, TMJ syndrome, or dental issues?
Any rituals? Do you sleep with sleepwear on, or none?
And anything else you care to add.

I’m on my own, I usually sleep on my left side because I get too uncomfortable on the back or stomach, wear a nightgown and undies, no socks unless it’s really cold, I need to toss and turn for a while before I settle down, I wear a biteguard because I clench my jaw otherwise, and I like it dark. Lights tend to keep me awake.

Forgot to add: I use a makura, as it gives me better spinal support.

Alone. I doubt I stay in one position all night. I used to go to sleep on my left side, but I wrenched my left arm once hauling an old hot water cycinder down the drive, so that’s still a bit too uncomfortable to lay on for long. So, right side starts me off. I like it dark and quiet. No special rituals, unless you call taking my glasses off a ritual (when I’m travelling, and I forget to pack the glasscase, it’s a bit weird.) No special sleepwear – whatever I have on at the time that’s comfy is how I sleep.

I normally sleep alone (single)

I normally fall asleep best on my stomach, then I’ll go to my back sometimes. I generally roll about throughout the night though.

Light makes little difference to me, barring direct sunlight or the overhead lights of a room. Then again, I live in Scandinavia in the winter, so…draw your conclusions.

I don’t think I snore, although it’s hard to know when you’re single. I’m sure I do sometimes, but I don’t think it’s consistent. When I do snore I usually become aware of it. I wake up, thinking, “Who the hell is snoring?!”

I’ll sleep anywhere between fully clothed to completely naked, depending on BAC and temperature! But normally I’ll wear a shirt

I generally prefer a duvet. I never encountered these until I moved to (northern) Europe. I didn’t have one in Spain. They are really warm for some reason. I’ve never had a problem with warmth here. Normally back home I would have simply used a comforter. In case you don’t know, a duvet is normally just a comforter inside a big pillowcase. It’s nice because you can wash it as often as you do your sheets.

Also I’m a bad sleeper, I always have been. Plus with my working hours, I have no real reason to wake up early in the day, and when I get home (anywhere between 3AM and 7AM) I’m not tired enough to sleep. Guess who needs a 9 to 5 job? Although, even when I did have that, I didn’t sleep enough. Night guy always screws morning guy. But the problem is that morning guy loves to sleep in too, so when I don’t have to get up early I don’t. I spent the other day lying in bed much longer than I needed to. It was really nice too, to have so many hours devoted to dreaming, but in the end its not productive.

Right now I sleep alone, but I sleep better in a larger bed and with my SO. I generally start out on my stomach or side, then change positions several times per night. I rarely sleep on my back. I prefer it to be dark, but I have slept during the day without problems before. (I spent a few summers in Iceland, where it doesn’t get dark during the summer. You get used to it.) I snore on occasion, but it’s not loud snores, but small, quiet ones. I also talk/mumble and sigh contentedly in my sleep.

I sleep better with a down duvet, as they concentrate and distribute the heat better than regular comforters. It also makes sleeping without clothes a lot nicer. I move around enough in my sleep that I tend to get tangled in my clothes if I’m not careful.

I usually sleep alone unless I’m visiting the boyfriend.

I sleep on my side, with two pillows. One arm goes between those two pillows, under my head, and one hugs a small pillow to my side. If no pillow is available, I will take a teddy bear or a big handful of comforter. I need a comforter. Down is best. Even in the summer, when it’s hot, I need to have a comforter to cover my upper body. I can’t explain why, but I feel too exposed without it.

I prefer a tiny bit of light, so I’ll leave the blinds open a little to let in the streetlights. That way I don’t kill myself if I get up to pee.

I probably should have a bite guard thing for my TMJ issues but I haven’t gotten around to getting one yet. I don’t snore, unless I’m sick with a sinus infection and can’t breathe.

I’m usually wearing flannel jammie pants and a T-shirt. Summer is girly boxers and a T-shirt or tank unless I’m feeling fancy and I wear a little satin slip thing.

What kind of a sleeper are you?
I’m a particular sleeper—I like things just so. I like my high thread count sheets.
*Alone, or with someone? *
I sleep with Drachillix
*A pet or a stuffed animal, maybe? *
I’ve never slept with a pet and own very few stuffed animals. none of which are invited to share the bed.
*Do you sprawl out like a starfish, or stay mostly in one position? *
Mostly stay put, although there are vicious rumors being spread that I invade the whole bed. Lies.
Side, stomach, or back, or keep on rollin’?
Mostly right side. I prefer the left side but **Drachillix ** objects to elbows in his throat although he doesn’t mind my knee in his groin. Go figure.
*Do you need it really dark or do you prefer a nightlight? *
I need a nightlight. I can’t sleep well in the dark dark.
Got quilts, heat packs, or makuras?
I have a lovely comfortor and a wonderful blanket. I have satin pillowcases for my hair.
Do you use something for snoring, apnea, TMJ syndrome, or dental issues?
Nope. There are terrible rumors floating around that I snore, but fine young ladies could not possibly snore. More lies.
*Any rituals? *
I have to arrange the bedding just so. I need two pillows, the satin one on top. I have to sleep clean.
Remove contacts, wash face, brush teeth, take meds.
Do you sleep with sleepwear on, or none?
Depends. Dead of winter–pajamas and socks. Most other times, just cotton panties: I love my sheets!

Ah, good sheets…Ever since I started using Pure Beech sheets, which are as soft as clouds probably are, I wouldn’t want to go back to regular thin cotton sheets.

I sleep with Mr Frog, and I drive him nuts. Before we can go to sleep, I have to make sure there are no wrinkles anywhere. I will line up the corners of the quilt & comforter and shake them out. I then have to make sure there are no wrinkles in either of my flannel pillow cases (even if my head only touches one). I have to have the tv on for light, but with the volume very low. I tend to start out on my left side, but toss and turn all night. I sometimes end up with all the blankets wrapped around me from rolling over so much. When its cold I sleep in flannel pj’s or sweats, but in the summer its boxers and tanks. Mr Frog says I snore, but I’ll never admit it.

Alone; high thread count sheets, no jammies; with my stuffed bunny and two pillows, which I arrange in kind of an inverted V; on my left side for a while to get started, then I flip over to my right side to go to sleep; nod right off.

yawn

Which reminds me – it’s way past my bedtime…

I sleep alone, which is kind of a problem in my marriage.

When I sleep on my stomach, I have to have a corner of the comforter to hug. I have trouble sleeping when I don’t have something to hug.

I used to be pretty much confined to my half of of the bed (queen), but lately I’ve been sprawling all over the place. I start out sleeping on my side, then go from side to side to stomach. My best sleep is on my stomach, but I never stay in the same position all night. When I sleep on my back I tend to wake myself up snoring.

I like dark. I leave the hall light on for the kids when they’re out late, but if they forget to turn them off when they come in I have to get up and take care of it.

I wear a big, old t-shirt, no other paraphernalia.
I would like to have it cold at night, but I’m outvoted by others in the household.

Lemme see…I’ve actually slept pretty much the same way for as long as I can remember. First of all, I sleep naked. I can’t sleep with clothes on because they bind up and they’ll keep me awake. The room has to be pitch black unless I’m dead to the world when I’m ready for bed but in that case I’m usually up in the middle of the night and I’m back to turning all the lights off and closing the doors anyhow. The door(s) have to be closed because I’m obsessive compulsive about doors and cupboards in general. That has little to do with bedtime, I just can’t focus when any doors are open and I’m naturally not falling to sleep if I’m worrying about doors.

I don’t sleep with any stuffed animals or anything. I sleep on my stomach with my legs spread out. One leg is straight and the other is bent at 90 degrees (it obviously isn’t sticking straight up, it’s bent so my leg is still resting on the mattress). The leg that is bent alternates until I go to sleep and then I pretty much don’t move. I look to my right as I fall to sleep and I have to sleep under heavy blankets whether it is cold outside or not so I generally have the air conditioning running.

I don’t snore or anything like that and I sleep alone if at all possible.

I usually sleep alone. In nothing but panties. On flannel sheets, even in the summer. But I like it cold when I sleep- A/C is on 68 year-round, with comforter and two thin pillows.

Very dark, with the tabletop fan on- even though it is noisy and annoying to others, I’m used to it and it would be hard to try to sleep without it.

I start on my right side, then when I start to get sleepy, 5 or 10 minutes, I turn onto my left side. One arm curls up under my chin, and the other arm curls up with my hand shaped like a ball, placed inside the cup of the other hand under the chin. Legs slightly bent but without the knees touching.

I very much like everything to be the same, night after night, and if anything is different it can be very hard to get to sleep. (Sometimes it’s worth it, though.)

I mostly stay like that, I think- I’m a very heavy sleeper and don’t wake up at all from night to morning. Sometimes I wake up on my back with my arms up over my head.

I’m a Gold Medalist Sleeper – really, I think they should give out awards for thngs like that.

I sleep alone, but the dog gets up on the bed to snuggle for a bit before I actually go to sleep. He jumps down after the lights go out and finds his own bed. Occasionally he’ll get back up on the bed, but not often. I tend to kick in my sleep, I suspect.

I love pillows, and sleep with two under the head, one behind (along the back). Covered by thermal blanket, electric blanket and comforter, plus (for winter) flannel sheets. I like the weight of the comforter. I sleep in flannel jammies or sweats in winter, summer weight long shirts or light pants and t-shirt. I cannot sleep nekkid, and don’t know why.

The presleep ritual is to make sure the doors are locked, lights shut off, candles snuffed, etc. I have a Halls Mentholyptus cough drop – it helps my chronically stuffy head all night. Then I read for at least a half hour (this is when the dog is on the bed). Then lights out, and I’m out.

I also suspect I snore, though ladies aren’t supposed to. I have dozed off once or twice and been rudely awakened by snoring – the dog is a ventriloquist, obviously. In the past, others have mentioned I talk in my sleep.

I can sleep anywhere, anytime, and pretty much anyplace, though. And sleep like the contented dead.

I have a full-size bed, and I sleep alone for the most part. My sheets are 300-count cotton, smooth and soft. I have a electric blanket, then a thermal blanket, then a thin, soft blanket as a coverlet. Occasionally, I’ll throw on my down comforter to make it look pretty.
I have a queen-size pillow for my head, a standard pillow to my right and a body pillow to my left. Most night’s I’ll lay on my back til I feel sleep coming, whereupon I’ll turn onto my left side and support my right leg with the body pillow. I can’t fall asleep without a pillow holding up my leg…the support it provides keeps my hips in alignment and it feels much more natural. I place the corner of the body pillow under my chin to keep my mouth closed during the night (nothing worse then waking up with your mouth wide open and all dried out).
I never sleep with clothes on, I don’t toss and turn, and I never sleep on my stomach. I used to as a kid, but read that it was bad for your back and haven’t done it since. Sometimes I have a hard time getting to sleep, so I’ll lie awake for a while. I like having support under my knees, so there’s always a pillow under the blankets.
When I’m with someone, I like to sleep facing them with my hand on his chest or arm. And of course my leg thrown over his for support!

I’d prefer to sleep alone, but I sleep with my partner most nights. I usually prefer to read before I go to sleep.

I’m usually on the right side of the bed. I always have a book with me.There are days where I’ll get up in the middle of the night and go out to the couch in the living room and read a book.

Alone in a queen size bed, on cotton knit sheets (comfy!)
Down comforter–light but oh, so warm (and usually pulled up to my ears)
Two pillows, though I don’t always use both
Too dark is creepy, so curtains are slightly open (windows open, weather permitting) morning light is a good thing
As little clothing as possible
I prefer to start out facing the bedroom door, which currently means laying on my left side. But if I lay on my stomach, I’ll turn my head to the left.
I prefer to leave the bedroom door open, but sometimes close it.
I sleep better if the cats are with one of the kids.
No matter how hot it is, I need at least a sheet to cover me.

gosh, that was all rather personal!

I am the king of a queen-sized bed, the head beneath a (usually open) window. I sleep on top of the sheets but beneath a lightweight comforter or two. 5 pillows, 4 different types to suit my nocturnal moods. On my bedside table sits a Sangean ATS 909. I hit the sleep button and usually drift off to KGO or KQED. Sometimes I’ll awake in the middle of the night and turn the radio on again. God help me if there is an interesting program or topic–I could be up until dawn.

Married for over 20 years…so with someone.

My wife, unfortunately, is allergic to pets. However, our daughter, who we call ‘Pigglet’, sometimes crawls into bed late at night, so that might count…

Stomach.

The darker the better. Definitely no nightlight.

Quilts.

I don’t snore at all. My wife, unfortunately does. She doesn’t take anything though.

In the winter I sleep in flannels…summer nothing.

Well, you didn’t ask HOW we sleep. So, I’ll say. I’m a very light sleeper…the slightest noise or disturbance will wake me up. Also, I have a lot of trouble GETTING to sleep most nights. I used to take Ambien (sp?), and have tried Lunestra (sp?). The Ambien works well, though its hard to get my doc to write me a perscription for it. For whatever reason, the Lunestra doesn’t work well for me…and my insurance won’t cover it. So of course the doctor has no problem writting a perscription for THAT. :stuck_out_tongue:

Currently single, and although there is the loss of other benefits, I prefer sleeping alone.

I am a light sleeper. My mum said that as a child I always opened my eyes every time I moved in my sleep. I still do. I’m a VERY light sleeper, but the trade-off is that I can sleep anywhere, anytime, even if I’m not tired.

I haven’t used an alarm clock in over ten years, despite working shifts. I simply wake up, without fail, about five minutes before the alarm goes off - so I learned to stop bothering with it.

Long distance flights or rail journeys are over in a heartbeat for me.
