How do you sleep? (A poll)

I sleep alone. Oh so very very alone :frowning: .

My SO is across the ocean and my cat died. Pitty me.

I always slept on my stomach, till of late. When I started sleeping, sometimes, on my (left) side. I don’t know why.

If I achieve a really good deep sleep, one position. And pillow marks embedded in my face. If not, tossing and turning and a really bad hair day.

I usually leave the light on but I’ve heard this is a really bad idea.

I’ve been told I grind my teeth. This of course is not true. And denile is a river in Egypt. But I just don’t think I can sleep with one of those rubber things in my mouth.

No rituals. I just sit here online till I realize I’m exuasted and close the laptop and fall over. No sleep wear. When I was a kid (well, teenager) I slept naked. When I was with me SO we slept naked. Now that I’m not (or lord I’m so alone!!!) I wear whatever teeshirt and underwear I happen to have on.

  • Alone.
  • I’m a roller… either curled up on my side or flat on my back or stomach.
  • I prefer it to be as dark as possible, but it’s not usually an option.
  • No
  • I use sleepwear because I’m a hot sleeper and it makes clean bedding last longer. I have to have a cover over me, no matter how thin it is. I can think of one instance in my life where I slept without one, and that was to prove that I didn’t need a mosquito net.
  • Sometimes have a hard time falling asleep, but I love waking up and falling back to sleep in the morning - that’s when you get the best dreams.

I have about 100 stuffed sharks and killer whales. I collect them. I also sleep with them, until I find a girlfreind! LOL! :stuck_out_tongue:

Is that blues or country?

Err…I refuse to be country so I guess it must be blues. I’ll come up with the appropraite bassline later.

What kind of a sleeper are you? Alone, or with someone?

Usually co-sleep w/ my girlfriend.

Do you sprawl out like a starfish, or stay mostly in one position? Side, stomach, or back, or keep on rollin’?

I generally change positions twice – I start on my left side, and when that becomes uncomfortable, I roll over onto my back, and then sometime in the morning I roll over onto my right side. I need a better mattress.

Do you need it really dark or do you prefer a nightlight? I like it dark. My GF sometimes runs a fan for white noise. I don’t understand the appeal, but it doesn’t bother me and judging by the proliferation of white noise sleep aids, it must be good for something. (She’d never heard of them.)
Do you use something for snoring, apnea, TMJ syndrome, or dental issues?

I frequently use a decongestant before turning in, to avoid snoring that ranges between a freight-train rumble and an ultra-high-frequency girly whistle.

Any rituals? Just reading.

Do you sleep with sleepwear on, or none?

Bare-assed or boxers.

And anything else you care to add.

We keep two bedrooms for times when varying schedules, snoring, eye-watering ass-gas or general restlessness makes co-sleeping difficult. This will change in a month or two, since we’re looking to save a bit of money and this is a little extravegant.

It’s reported that I talk in my sleep. I’ve heard this before, and even woke myself up a few times with it.

It seems every time she mentions it, though – I’ve said things like “I love you!” and “You’re awesome!” I’m not 100% sure if she’s pulling my leg or not. Seems plausible, I guess.

She, on the other hand, says things like “Find the fucking Google!”

I sleep on my left side with my back and my rear end wedged against my husband’s. If it’s not too dry or cold, I sleep naked. I MUST have a silky blanky to get to sleep. Requirement.

So that’s how I sleep… When I sleep, that is.

[nitpick]It’s not rubber; it’s acrylic and customized to fit your teeth and gums.[/nitpick] It takes a few nights to get used to. However, I understand your point.

I sleep on my side, either left or right. Unless I am napping, in which case I sleep on my back. I prefer it dark, but I can sleep with some light. I don’t think I move around much.

No pre-sleep rituals aside from brushing teeth. I have two pillows on the bed, but only use one. Regular sheets, a comforter, and a WWII army blanket are used as temperature dictates.

I prefer to have my GF in the bed, but that’s not always possible. When I am alone, I wear boxers year-round. With the GF, naked.

On top of a pile of money with many beautiful ladies.

Honey, you’re messin’ with her lyrics. Leave the girl be. What the hell rhymes with “acrylic” ???

What kind of a sleeper are you? Alone, or with someone? A pet or a stuffed animal, maybe?

With S.O. Although I travel a lot, then alone.

Do you sprawl out like a starfish, or stay mostly in one position? Side, stomach, or back, or keep on rollin’?

** I have a broken back, so I cannot sleep on my back, it’s agonizing. I sleep on my right side, curled up a bit.

I also have sleep apnea ( fun to be me !! ), and since I’ve started using THAT little toy, I sleep on my right side, without moving. Or dreaming, as far as I can tell. Which is quite odd. **
Do you need it really dark or do you prefer a nightlight? Got quilts, heat packs, or makuras?

I prefer it like a tomb, S.O. likes some light, I’ve learned to compromise. Seasonal covers but I must have a sheet I can grab onto the corner of, to fall asleep.

Do you use something for snoring, apnea, TMJ syndrome, or dental issues?

See above. I detest it but I know it’s healthier for me. I averaged 68 apnic episodes * per hour when tested.*

Any rituals? Do you sleep with sleepwear on, or none?
And anything else you care to add.

** Sleep in sweats and t in the winter, sweats and shorts in the summer. When travelling I sleep in nothing, which I greatly prefer. S.O does not, and with two kids in the house, it’s not been an option for me really.

The cats, well. They own the house anyway, and frequently curl up against me as I sleep.

Cartooniverse

Alone, usually, since my husband and I don’t agree about much of anything when it comes to sleeping.

On my right side, with a pillow between my legs because my hip still hurts, and hugging another pillow.

I like the room cold, so I can snuggle under a comforter.

Ummm…Cyrillic?

In Russia, Comrade comforts bed !

:stuck_out_tongue:

As I’m single, I sleep alone. That’s probably a good thing, because I’m quite a restless sleeper. I’ll usually make up several times in the middle of the night to go to the washroom or change positions. I prefer to sleep on my side. I don’t really have a preferred side; I’ll switch several times in the process of going to sleep while trying to get comforable. My real problem is that I have no idea what to do with my arms when I’m sleeping. The best position for me lately has been on my left side with my left arm spread out, and my right arm tucked in front of my body on top of another pillow.

I find it nearly impossible to sleep on my back – I’m just not comfortable. This has caused me problems in the past. Once, I injured my right shoulder somehow(it may well have been from sleeping on it). I ended up sleeping on my left shoulder so much that it started to hurt as well. This left me with the choice of lying on my back and not sleeping, or lying on one of my shoulders and risking further injury(not to mention, the risk of being kept awake by the pain).

I, too, do the position-changing and getting up once or twice; and it hurts my tailbone if I lie on my back. We could be related....

I can’t lie on my right side because somehow it stirs up my arthritic toe and makes one of my arms go numb.

The wife and I share a king-size bed with the two cats. We both toss and turn a lot during the night, so the cats take precautions. Neither of us has any trouble falling asleep if there are lights on, so reading in bed isn’t an issue. We both use Breathe-Right strips to cut down on the snoring duets. I sleep in the nude, the wife wears sweats (sometimes). We keep water bottles on each bedside table to cut down on the midnight trips to the kitchen for a drink. She usually sleeps right through my getting up each morning for work, the shower, turning on the light and getting dressed, but when I come back into the bedroom to kiss her goodbye, she wakes up instantly. Go figure.

I sleep with the fishes under the sea…

No, I sleep alone in my bed with the lights off, on my stomach, and with my arms tucked under. I have never seen anyone sleep like I do, although I suppose I have not seen many sleep, period. Reading this thread though makes me want to see some of y’all sleep  Or maybe we wouldnt sleep much…

I toss and turn, but usually sleep on my left side or my stomach. I’m an insomniac, so I wake up a lot. The blankets have to be placed “just right”, meaning they can’t be pulled off to one side or the other, but otherwise I don’t really care about the type of sheet/blankets as long as they aren’t too itchy! I like layers, so I can pull them up or push them off as I want. I cuddle my husband when I’m first starting to go to sleep, but then move away. If I’m unhappy, or in a bad insomnia phase, I might grab a stuffed animal that I’ve had since I was born…just for something to hug. We usually sleep naked, but when we can’t (at someone’s house for example) I like cotton pyjamas ( I think they’re cotton?!). I hate nightgowns because they aways ride up and I feel like they’re strangling me.

We have a queen sized bed, and the cat will occasionally sleep next to me (on the edge, placing me in the middle) or at my feet. She goes through phases where she’ll do that for weeks, and then ignore the bed entirely for weeks more. Currently, it’s a sleeping-on-the-bed phase.

I sleep alone, naked and under a quilt, on a double bed with two pairs of pillows. I slept the same way before I split with my wife, but of course then there were two of us.

Always on one side, flipping over periodically, right/left, in a kind of foetal position, although I’ll often have my legs extended rather than tucked-up.

I have great difficulty sometimes in getting to sleep, but once asleep rarely wake up. As a strategy for getting to sleep in the first place, I just fantasise about an alternate life, doing interesting things in far-away places, until I drift off. Sad, eh?
No pre-bed rituals, but I’ll keep a fresh glass of water or diluted cordial by the bed for night-time thirsts. No lights on, curtains closed, but door open to dimly-lighted hallway for semi-sleeping access to the loo.

Occasionally, I’ll wake up in the middle of the night and turn the radio on (BBC World Service, usually) and smoke a cigarette. Then put the cig out, drink some water and curl up for more sleep.

In the morning, I’m woken up by BBC Radio 4, and usually make extensive use of the 9-minute “snooze” button. Then it’s time for coffee and fresh orange juice, but that’s for a separate thread.
