How do you spell PRICK?

Okay . . . I recently (few weeks ago) joined a Christian Message Board. So far not too many incidents, though there’s one poster there who seems to be so ful of spite and ignorance it’s shocking.

Today I read this.

By the time I finish reading this post I’ve already got one in my mind. And I’m shaking by the time I hit “Post Reply”.

What kind of a sick FUCK writes this shit? On a CHRISTIAN message board! FUCK!

I’ve had very pleasant experiences in the other forums to which I post. Could have figured a Christian one would get me riled up.

For those who are interested, here is my response to that . . . waste.

Could you use it in a sentence?

Could I have the latin root of the word?

(Anyone watch Spin City last night?)

Oh yeah. I just read your link. I agree. What a jerk.

You rock!

For what it’s worth, the people posting there just need to pull their heads out of their asses. They’re the pathetic ones.

And now he’s saying stuff about wymyn . . . I’d post a link but I’m too fucking pissed right now to go and find it again.

The good thing about my other message board is you can put other posters in something called a penalty box. Basically, when you do that you no longer see their posts. Anything posted by them is registered as “ignored fool yap”.

But that might not be such a good idea around here.

Guinastasia: thanks for the support. Another guy who’s on that board (and out, btw), was able to find humor where I couldn’t. But I posted something about proselytizing, so I guess we each got our laugh.

One more “comment” from that . . . thing and he’s PBed.

And a pretty good number of people there are probably more fundamentalist than anything. Polycarp would whip their asses in a debate about anything Biblical. Would actually be really amusing to watch.

Okay. I went to the link and found the so-called “Christian Fools MB” of Motley Fool’s website. First of all, I would not characterize this as a “Christian Message Board”, okay? Motley Fool provides web space for what looks like dozens of discussion boards in the Speaker’s Corner. Just because one happens to be called “Christian Fools” doesn’t mean that it’s going to be a genuine Christian board. I saw no mention anywhere of who moderates it, for one thing. Perhaps it has no moderator at all, and so cannot be considered as a “discussion” board, but is really just an oversize local bulletin board, where people can thumbtack up their coffee-stained and misspelled index cards and walk away. They don’t want a conversation, they want a soapbox, and fool.com is happy to give it to them. Maybe they’ll click on the ad.

Iampunha, babe, WHY are you even there? Don’t you love us anymore? :frowning: Why waste even a single neural synapse of your intellect on this kind of thing? Talk about casting pearls before swine–you actually posted a response? You need to get better at ignoring this kind of thing, babe, 'cause you’re not gonna change their minds, and life’s too short, you know? They aren’t posting there because they want their ignorance enlightened–they’re there most likely because the legit Christian MBs don’t want their brand of tedious spittle-spraying around.

Hmmm.

This looks like a job for:

Esprix.

Unsurprisingly, this is the least civil group I’ve ever found. So split down the middle it pains me to read some of the vitriol over ther.

“Perhaps it has no moderator at all, and so cannot be considered as a “discussion” board, but is really just an oversize local bulletin board, where people can thumbtack up their coffee-stained and misspelled index cards and walk away.”

I don’t know about that . . . there are people who work for the fool who moderate and such . . . but it’s not nearly as good as this place, which is why my post count here is near 3000 and there it’s like 500.

Iampunha, babe, WHY are you even there?”

To fight ignorance. Plus the other forums there are fun.

“Don’t you love us anymore? :(”

Some of you more than others. But I always check the SD first. then email,. then the fool.

“Why waste even a single neural synapse of your intellect on this kind of thing?”

This site exists to fight ignorance. In that same spirit I go there to fight ignorance.

“Talk about casting pearls before swine–you actually posted a response?”

Oh, but you didn’t see me shaking as I read that. It would have been more painful for me to let that post go.

“You need to get better at ignoring this kind of thing, babe,”

One more “comment” from that cretin and he’s PBed. I decided about an hour ago. But thanks for the concern:)

Scylla, Esprix would positively frighten jerry and some of the others who think it’s “messed up” to be gay. They’re also afraid, some of them, of letting gay couples raise kids.

It sounds like this wienie is one of those people who use the word “Christian” when they really mean “narrow-minded, bigoted, racist, sexist, xenophobic, homophobic asshole.”

Just a guess.

Not worth your time or trouble. Play here instead.

EJ, I think it’s more along the lines of a fundamentalist Christian. He takes the Bible literally, from what I can tell. Sigh . . .

I do like it more here, though. Except the GOLP forum at MF is fun, too.

I’m I the only person who got shivers when they read that?

That, along with the whole “messed-up” bit was mainly what got me shaking.

I now have the poster in question in my penalty box. I tried to fight ignorance, guys, but when you slave over gems and get them shat back at you, there’s not much that can be done.

:frowning:

After reading that I got my head outta the terlet, took a few deep breaths and reflected that even evil, hating idiots can try to wrap themselves in virtue.

As repellent as those folks are, make no mistake: they are not Christian. (Pertinent thread: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=48717) Seeing the light, being saved, embracing The Word still carries an obligation to honor those beliefs in everyday life.

Any person who distorts and perverts the wisdom of any religion for their own purposes is damned, by their own sworn statements.

Plain hating, stupid, simple evil can wrap itself in pious/patriotic/whatever wrappings. What’s saddest and sickest in my experience are the haters, extremists and entrenched bureaucrats who disgrace those quiet folk who got the point.

Veb,

That is a comment that needs to be repeated a lot. Nicely, beautifully put, thank you for writing it.

Surely you jest.

Esprix

Brooke Shields? No way.

Now, if he had said “Farrah Fawcett”…

…I have a few words which I think sum everything up here quite nicely: Brook Shields? Ewwwww…

Sorry, carry on.

::raising hand sheepishly:: Um, been half way there (narrow-minded, homophobic asshole part). Alot of this was due to the church I was raised in.

Happy to say, I feel the Lord has done a great work in me in the past 2-3 years and I don’t qualify myself under these guidelines anymore. Never say people can’t change  because I don’t even feel like the same person anymore and I look back at the way I used to be and wonder “how could I be that way?”

But, I’ll tell you what set it off: it was moving to Tennessee for 3 years and going to a different church/different denomination. So many Christians stick with the denomination they are raised in and therefore never get any whiff of what else is cooking out there. I have my issues with American Christianity anyway, but I know getting away from my “native” denomination helped crack open my little nut and give it some much-needed exposure to the sun of other opinions!

Veb, EXCELLENT description.

And EJ, I think your definition was more accurate than I think many Christians would like to admit!

Fundamentalist Christian? Which part of “narrow minded, bigoted, racist, sexist, xenophobic, homophobic asshole” didn’t fit that label?

He does live in Tennessee and is so pro-Bush it’s frightening. Posts about the evil Dems and how Satan is present in them and talks about all sorts of things as though he were God.

And admires people who post things that aren’t true, and doesn’t know the difference between homosexual and pedophiliac (he’s not the only one on that board).

But there ARE posters on that board who ARE very Christian. This was just one message that had a very NON-Christian tone.
