Shouldn’t be an issue, since I’ve uploaded dozens of them. But it’s not something I do with any regularity. I thought I’d just go over and click ‘Add photo’ or ‘Upload photo’ or something. But there is no such button. There’s ‘Add video’, but that’s not what I want.
At the top of your newsfeed should be a button labeled “Add photo/video” next to your status input field. Or you can go to your home page where there are 4 buttons near the top middle of the page labeled “Status”, “Photo”, “Place”, “Life Event”.
Are you trying to post it on your own wall?
Near the top of your page, where it says “What’s on your mind”, and has options for “Update Status” and “Add Photos/Video”…click in the text box. It should expand, and show some new icons. The third one is a camera. Click that. It should give you a dialog box to select the picture you want to post.
The same basic steps work if you are posting on someone else’s wall, give or take the number of icons.
(Ninja’ed by Telemark, but posting anyway, since I phrased it a little differently. You never know which description will work best for people…)
Silly me! I assumed that uploading photos would be done under ‘Photos’. :smack:
So you just can’t upload a photo into an album? You have to post it using the status box?
From your page, you can post a new album. If you click on the “photo” button where you’d post a status, it gives you the option to make an album with one or more photos. You can also add to an existing album by clicking on that album and then on “add photos.” You can also upload from the “photos” page.
Find the album you want to upload into, open it, and there’s a selection to add photos or edit or tag at the top right. Unless you upload it as a private photo to start, it will still be posted to your newsfeed/wall for people to see. So you can do it either way, it’s just a matter of preference, whether you want to put it in the album first, or post it “quick and dirty” on your wall and then categorize it to the album you want later.
My phone uploads everything to facebook, into a “synched from phone” private album. I can then choose to leave them there and no one but me ever sees them, or I can publish them and move them to a categorized album.
That’s the thing. There’s no ‘Add Photo’ button.
The obvious place to add photos is from the photos page or an album. But there is no ‘Add Photo’ button. There’s ‘+ Create Album’ and ‘Add Video’ and an Edit button, but no ‘Add Photo’ button.
Photos…[Create Album][Add Video]…[Edit]
[Photos of You]…[Your Photos]…[Albums]…[Not Tagged]
Select [Albums], then click on the album you want to add to, or create a new album. You have to be in the album to which you want the photo added, or how does facebook know where to put it. Once you go the route of not just putting it on your wall, fb needs a more specific placement. If you just put it on your wall, then it will put the picture in the fb-titled “your photos” album, from which you can move it or leave it.
Looks like in the past, I created a new album every time I uploaded a photo. I was wondering how so many 'Untitled Album’s got there. Seems rather unwieldy. They should have it so that uploads go to one place, and you have to actually create an album or move the photo into an album if you want it elsewhere.
But FB is not a huge part of my life, so whatever
Mobile uploads go into the “Mobile Uploads” folder by default. If you’re on a computer either you post photos to your wall or add to an existing album easily. Most folks have a general album for general photos, or they just post them to their wall.
As I said, I don’t spend a lot of time on FB. I remember trying to upload into a “general folder” a when I started FB few years ago. That worked. Subsequently, it made a new album every time I uploaded. I think what happened is that there is no way to simply upload a photo from the Photos page or the Albums page. Photobucket and Flickr don’t have the extra steps.
Too late now, I guess; as there doesn’t appear to be any way to consolidate folders.
Sure there is, just the move photos into one designated folder and delete the empty ones.
How? There doesn’t seem to be any way to drag and drop. Do I have to copy and paste?
View an album, mouse over and a small pencil icon will appear in the upper right corner. Click on it and one option will be to move to another album. It’s not drag and drop.
What a PITA!
FB is poorly designed for curmudgeons!
It’s not a task that people perform very often, since they don’t usually create an album for a single photo. The UI isn’t ideal, but it’s not bad in the grand scheme of things.
I’m used to the Mac, where you can just do things. Just drag it and drop it. Even Windows does that. Every other file system I’ve used is like: Upload|Choose file(s)|Choose destination|Send. FB is like: Choose destination|Upload|Choose file|Send. And it doesn’t tell you how to do that. You just have to be part of the In Crowd that knows this. All of that peeking and poking and mousing over is poor design. Either it should be intuitive, or they should have instructions on the page. (And file manipulation shouldn’t be from 1985.)
I know that in modern culture, one is expected to spend one’s life online. One is expected to not only keep up with, but adopt the latest trends. Me? I spend entirely too much time online as it is. With something as inconsequential as FB, I don’t have time for messing about and just want it to work.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to chase some kids off my lawn.
I just click on “Add photo/album” and “browse.” Then I go to Library/Picture/My Pictures. I use an explorer window for My Pictures and group by month so they are easier to find. Then I select the photo. FB picks it up and allows me to add as many photos as I want. I don’t know anything about albums. I’ve never used albums.
