How do you use the board?

I’m pretty new to bulletin boards, but loving it way too much. Just wondering how others hang out here.

Do you use the buddy lists? (Though the FAQ says not to say who’s ON the list…)

How much time/day do you spent posting & reading?

All of the above

Actually, the only people I put on my “buddy lists” are people who really tick me off. No one stays on it long, anyway, because they tend to get banned fairly quickly.

Depends on the day. Could range from 0 for a month or two to a few hours in a day.

No regular routine. Depends on time factors.

I didn’t even know there was a buddy list.

:o

How do you use the sdmb?

Most of the time I use it for entertainment. I also use it for gaining knowledge about wordly and not-so-worldy matters. I use the SDMB to get a feel for how people’s feelings are on various topics and issues.
Do you cruise a forum? All the forums?

Most of them. I skip over Great Debates, and I don’t follow the Comments on Cecil’s/Staff Columns as frequently as the others.

Hot topics?

This depends on the topic and how one defines “hot.” Threads on the recent space shuttle disaster, for example, I follow these. Some might consider threads about LOTR or The Simpsons to be “hot topics” because of their popularity, but I don’t usually follow them.

Search on your name to follow-up responses to your comments?

I’ll check back periodically on the threads in which I posted, though I don’t always expect responses to my posts. For threads that I start I do check these more frequently.

Stalk someone through search?

Nope, never done this.

Search on key words of interest to you?

Occasionally, but sometimes the search engine (a.k.a. hamsters) can be sluggish, or I would probably do it more often.

Do you use the buddy lists?

I didn’t know there were buddy lists. Still, I don’t see any use for them here.

How much time/day do you spent posting & reading?

At work, it probably amounts to 1-2 hours daily (while I am running tests). At home, probably another 1-2 hours daily, double on the weekends.

I use it to kill time at work. Other than that, it uses me.

Fagjunk Theology: Not just for sodomite propagandists anymore.

I pretty much just skip around the forums, frolicking here and there. I never really scroll much further than halfway down the page, unless (on some rare occaision) there’s a thread I want to keep track of that’s fallen off.

I haven’t really used the search function a whole lot. I just look around until something catches my fancy.

I use it to pass time at work, mostly. It’s entertainment. I read CS, IMHO, MPSIMS, and BBQ. Very rarely I wander into GQ, but I’m not really about all the fact business, I’m more of a casual discussions person. There isn’t a single topic I’m knowledgable about that some regular here isn’t way better than me on, so no one’s missing out by me not being in GQ or GD.

I tend to cycle between those four boards throughout the day. I do hang out for a while in threads I posted in, and ones I’ve started, but few that I start ever stick around for very long. I sometimes check in at home in the evenings or on weekends, but mostly it’s while I’m at work.

I don’t really know much about the buddy lists.

Though I say I’m on more of the hanging out and socializing end of the spectrum than the dispensing knowledge end, there are things I don’t do and can’t imagine myself doing: hanging out in IRC or going to a Dopefest. I don’t know why that is, though.
