How does Kevin Trudeau make money?

Kevin was telling me this morning how I can get my share of the billions available from the government. Since, for the most part, the government gets its money from me (and my grandkids) in the first place, I decided not to pursue this particular incredible offer.

However, since Mr Trudeau has been banned from infomercials in which he has an interest http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2008/10/trudeau.shtm I am wondering what his current business model is. He did mention that he “does not make one penny” from the sale of his amazing book “Free Money.” I assume this is why his current ads are not “infomercials in which he has an interest.”

Is he making all the money on handling the books before shipping? (S&H is 11.95/book and you can get a second book “absolutely free” except the S&H.) Is Misha DiBono stashing the money away for him under the QSN shell?

I know he says the whole thing is just a public service, and I really really want to believe that, but…

The ban doesn’t apply to advertising his books because it would infringe on his First Amendment right to free speech. From Wikipedia:

Also he still owes the feds 37 million dollars so I guess they are happy to let him earn something toward paying it.

As for believing anything the guy does is a public service, I don’t foresee him winning any citizen of the year awards. He’s been convicted of larceny and credit card fraud (for stealing money from the credit cards of his own customers), has spent time in federal prison, has been sued successfully by the FTC more times than you can count on one hand. He was convicted of providing false endorsements of his products in commercials and on the backs of his books (e.g. claiming celebrities and various doctors or economists, etc. endorsed his (mis)information when in fact they didn’t). He probably says he isn’t making one penny for selling the book because technically he owes it all to the FTC.

Well the federal judge banned him from infomercials in which he has an interest, and that ban was for an infomercial promoting a different book…

I read the Wikipedia explanation before posting; I am reasonably sure he is not allowed to promote his books via infomercials if he has an interest in the proceeds of the book, particularly since he specifically makes the claim he does not make anything on the books. I don’t think the Feds are anxious for him to make money to pay off his fines; they seem to have an overriding interest in making sure he avoids the behaviours which got him fined in the first places.

Based on his history, it wouldn’t be a huge stretch to conclude that Trudeau is simply lying when he says he’s not making money off the books, and that he’s running the infomercials in open defiance of the injunction.

Why would you want to believe that? He’s just a modern day huckster, selling snake oil and quack books about…well, snake oil.

Trudeau makes money lying to morons and taking their money. I don’t worry too much about most morons, but there are some genuine desperate people who are looking for any hope, even a fool’s hope, and he takes advantage of their situation by selling them fake medical advice.

  1. He’s** not nice**, despite his acting.

  2. He has no authority in any field, except conning people.

  3. He is not honest.

Ummm…I was kidding.
I agree with you.
Still trying to figure out how he is on TV doing what seem like infomercials to me.

Didn’t his old books turn out to just be more of the same stuff he spouted in the informercial, and point you to some website you had to pay to join to get the “real” secrets? He could be doing that again.

I found people like him usually aren’t lying exactly, they are just not to fussy about the truth.

For instance, if you ever heard of Matthew Lesko and his “free” government money.

Well for starters you can get his book in a library but aside from that, I found about 75% of his free money comes in the forms of loans. I don’t think a loan is “free money.” But Lesko does.

The other stuff like grants and programs work but they’re very difficult to get and they are not immediate.

Some government programs are ludicrous. Like in Chicago there is a one time assistance to help people who can’t pay their rent. But to get that assistance, you have to already be 2 months behind in your rent.

I used Leskos program to sign up for discounted drugs, by the time I got accepted it was years later and I already had a job which paid insurance, so I was no longer qualified for it.

Or let’s say you get a grant from the US government to open a business, say a Coffee Shop. The government isn’t going to give you money to open a shop in Chicago on Michigan Avenue. No the purpose is to establish businesses in underserved areas. You’d have to get the shop in, say Humboldt Park or some other depressed area. Do you really want to risk a business in a bad area? But sometimes it does work.

The bottom line I found was people selling these books are selling you information that you could get elsewhere if you took the time to look for it.

How Kevin makes money is probably done through trade offs. In other words he trades something he has to someone making money. And the revenue is reported in some off way.

This is common in business to avoid taxes and such. Remember it’s not illegal to AVOID taxes as long as you don’t EVADE them.
