Good point… you may have humbled a few folks upthread…but I doubt it.
Forgive the hijack please but are rules about being a jerk or accusations of trolling (or even hijacking ) not applicable in ATMB?

They are, did you report the post?
ETA: This sounded like Jr Modding, if so I didn’t mean it to come off that way.
I don’t get it. How is anything in stpauler’s post jerkish or an accusation of trolling?
I don’t think it’s possible, but an entire forum may be willing to ignore you.
Not stpauler, she was referring to post #14, I assume.
Moderator Note
cranecrews, accusations of trolling are not permitted outside the Pit. Since you are new here, no warning issued, but don’t do this again.

A much better way is to starve the forum to death. First, chastise the forum for it’s lack of personal responsibility and it’s refusal to pull itself up by it’s bootstraps. Then, cut off the forum’s funding.
Moderator Note
What the … !!!, I have to say, “What the …!!!” You are either making a baseless accusation of being a jerk against stpauler, or junior modding cranecrews’ post. If you think something is against the rules, report it rather than hijacking and asking ridiculous questions. No warning issued, but don’t make posts like this again.

You can edit “hosts” file to direct the forum you want to block to some random ip address.
Like if you are using windows 7, do:
notepad %systemdrive%\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
if x.com is the website you want to block, then you can add “0.0.0.0 x.com” at the end of this file and save it n thats it.
for other OSes, you can read thislink.
Oh, hell, I have to run home and grab my broom!
Actually, Loach’s posts in that thread were made while it was in General Questions. I moved it to GD.
Very well, sir–I call shenanigans on YOU!
That blocks websites, not forums. There is a difference.
In truthseeker2’s defense, “forum” has been used to include all forums of a Message Board; Forum is sometimes a synonym for Message Board. So blocking that kind of site would be blocking the Forum.
Is that what the kids call it nowadays?
You could try aversion therapy. Every time you click on the forum you don’t want to click on, punish yourself. Every time you feel like clicking on it, but resist, treat yourself to a little reward.
so use, for instance, **127.0.0.1 boards.straightdope.com ** rather than **127.0.0.1 www.straightdope.com **
blocks the forum, leaves the rest of the site unharmed.
of course some sites may not be as easy to block just the forum as this one would be. point is you can at least sometimes block just the forum and not the whole website.
