How does the new S/W communicate with browser? (Opera)

I’m posting this from Netscape 4.72.

I use Opera for my browsing whenever I can, especially for things like the SDMB. How you other people do it without an MDI browser is beyond me.

I’m using 4.0 beta 3, which supports HTTP 1.1 (including persistent connections as the default) and HTML 4.0 very well. It supports Javascript and Java fairly well but far from perfectly. I have it set to automatically accept all cookies but it will not accept third party cookies.

There are some threads to which I cannot reply, notably Cristi’s “Test URL” thread in “About this message board”. The main screen shows me as logged in. When I attempt to reply, I am presented with a “You are not logged in …” page which allows me to log in. I can then compose a reply; when I pick “Submit reply”, I get a page saying “No forum specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the webmaster.”

When I attempt to reply to other threads, I go directly to the composition page. I haven’t yet tested whether replying works after that.

I attempted to create a test thread in “About this message board”, and there were no error mesages or indications of problems, and it appears not to be there. It doesn’t show up with a reload. It didn’t show up when I opened Netscape and navigated to that forum.

I tried to post this from Opera with the same result.

Is the new software using something non-standard that only Netscape and IE handle?

If you’re supporting only Netscape and IE, you’ve lost this user. I know I’m not one of the revered posters who would be sorely missed. BUt I just thought I’d let you know …

Aha, when I attempted to create a new thread in Opera, I was sent directly back to the forum page without ever seeing the “Thank you for posting …” page.

I attempted to reply from Opera, and didn’t get the “You are not logged in …” page. When I hit “Submit reply”, I got the “No forum specified …” page.

Looks as if the new software is incompatible with Opera …

The vb notes I’ve seen indicate it works best with IE and some versions of Netscape.

Sorry. This is beta version of some really new software; I would assume future versions would be more inclusive. Please keep trying.

More info …

Opera 4.0 on another computer has the same problem.

Opera 3.62 on yet another computer has the same problem.

I also am an Opera user (3.62), and can’t post to the new site (I’m doing this with IE5). Please don’t make me use IE or Netscape to access this site!

It looks as if the problem has been isolated, and it affects more than just Opera users, and it will be fixed. Of course, I don’t know exactly when.
