How does your Family/Group resolve Pizza orders?

What rules and procedures do you employ when ordering Pizza(s) for your group or family? How do you resolve the issue of toppings?

One of each is usually the way we go, as we tend to keep pizza for a while. If I am just getting some with a friend, we get half and half.

If we do have to compromise, the person with the most selective palate wins. That means a primarily meat-based pizza.

Luckily, nobody I eat pizza with is picky, so it usually ends up being sausage, mushrooms, onions, and peppers.

I say “how about getting a pizza.”
She says “ok, that sounds fine.”
I say “what kind do you want?”
She says “whatever you bring back is fine, you know what I like.”
I go get a pizza and bring it back and we eat it.

When I was a kid it was a different procedure.

We’d arrive at the pizza place.
Parents would say “Go get a table.”
We’d go sit down.
Eventually a pizza would arrive.
Our opinions on what kind of pizza would arrive were neither relevant nor requested.

In family situations, we almost always order pepperoni. There might be an extra meat, but never vegetables.
In work situations, there’s always a cheese pizza, a pepperoni pizza, and a mushroom pizza (usually with another meat but not usually with vegetables). Only if there is a company wide order do we get sausage pizza, multiple veggies, or Hawaiian style.

I’ve never met a pizza I didn’t like, so I let everyone else decide.

Well since Dominic and I are vegetarian and Dan doesn’t mind veggie pizzas we generally just get green pepper and mushroom. If we have a coupon for two pizzas at a good price we may get a plain cheese one for me. Fortunately it’s settled out nicely like this though every once in a while we change the toppings to different veggies. It’s never difficult though.

Typically, everyone defers to my superior pizza-choosing skills. I take this responsibility very seriously, and try to get a good variety that pleases everyone. A Greek pizza typically takes precedence over a Hawaiian, but the two contrast well with one another.

We order supreme, then we get some of everything.

Come and let me introduce you to some truely hideous Pizzas, like curry chicken…

thankfully the “catch of the day” (prawn) and Apricot Chicken are no longer part of the menu

If I’m involved in a group pizza selection, the only rule is that one pizza can not have mushrooms (I have a mild allergy - mostly just nausea, occasionally worse.) The only downside is that I almost never get to have a slice of veggie pizza in a group setting – I’m not a vegetarian, but I do like almost all veggies.

margharita generally, or if there is going to be meat a pepperoni artichoke heart and red onion. We prefer New Haven style.

Our standard work order for the office is one cheese, one pepperoni, one veggie and one white. This was arrived at after much debate. Now that we’ve hit upon it, it’s set in stone. I’m planning to add it to the orientation packet for new staff, so they know what to expect.

Simply, one pizza/person. (Here in Germany a large pizza is a pizza that’s ample for one person. I learned the conceptual difference when dining out in the US and we ordered a large pizza each…)

I hate the 1/2 hour discussion that inevitably ensues about what toppings to get (when all pizza tastes essentially the same, especially when you’re just getting cookie-cutter delivery pizza) so now I simply ask who wants in then just order a cheese and a pepperoni. Whoever complains gets their money back and no pizza.

When it comes to pizza for me, less is more. I’m not a big fan of “garbage pies” or “Supremes” or whatever. And NO meat lovers. Three toppings max (extra cheese doesn’t count); one protein, two veggies.

Ham, mushrooms, and onion? Awesome.

Sausage, tomato, and green chile/jalapeno ? Great.

Margherita? Perfect.

Ham, sausage, pepperoni, black olives, onion, bell peppers, ground beef, bacon, and mushrooms? I’ll pass.

Just about everyone likes pepperoni, so it’s usually just pepperoni.

Pepperoni + extra cheese on 1/2 for Dad, the rest of the family can do whatever.

However, one thing which I insist on is that the pizza (at least the one containing my half) be thin crust.

Work, I have no idea how they came up with it but it’s usually a pepperoni and mushroom, Hawaiian, veggie and something else I can’t think of.

Home, most of the time we order a veggie for the adults and a personal pepperoni for the boy. I never liked pepperoni, Mom hates anything that even hints of spicy, so this is a good compromise. In a few years I’ll probably be buying Velociraptor his own full size pizza if he eats anything like my brother did, but I can’t imagine it’ll change much.

The rest of the time we buy fixings and make our own personal pizza.

Since I’m the boss of the house, and I’m the one paying, we always get what I want.

Oh, wait- that’s just how I think it should be. Actually, we usually end up getting one of what I want, and one of what they want.
