This game really snuck up on me, and I get the impression that it’s snuck up on everyone. There isn’t really much buzz or hype about it, but it looks great.
Basically, it appears to be a combination FPS and Grand Theft Auto-style game, while incorporating some interesting elements like air combat and calling in tactical strikes. The first reviews have just come out, and it seems to be great. I think I’m going to pick it up.
The commercial I saw for it tonight went something like…
“Blow stuff up! Blow it up again! And Some more! Then blow THAT up! Do it again! Blow everything up! Woo Hoo! Blow it ALL UP!!!”
So the whole point of the game is blowing stuff up.
My favorite is “I will flip a coin to decide which building to blow up. Then I will blow both of them up.” We must not neglect to mention the commercial where they talk about blowing that building up. Then blowing it up again.
Well I’ll be happier than a pig in shit. Halo2, while fun, doesn’t have the staying-power I had hoped it would (I don’t do Live, so once I’d beaten campaign, well, that was that).
Sometimes, after a long, frustrating day at work, there’s nothing better than blowin’ stuff up real gooood.
I’m pretty sure you can only play as one of three characters.
I too played the demo ala OXM. Very fun. lots of cool shit to drive/ pilot. Has a lot of “sandbox” potential it would seem.
My biggest beef is that it doesn’t have any multiplayer.
How cool would it be to be able to run around on Xbox live jacking helecopters and calling in airstrikes?
Answer: Very. The single player experience supposedly lasts 30-40 hours (which would mean like a hundred for my pokey ass) I’ll probably wait for it to drop in price a bit befopre I pick it up if only for lack of multiplayer (I’m a stickler about such things I guess).
I picked it up tonight, and several stores were already sold out of it. Interesting!
So far, it’s an absolute blast (no pun intended!) It’s like a great cross between GTA and the Metal Gear series - completely freeform (take missions in the order that you wish, or just explore the countryside getting into occasional battles). Calling in airstrikes is AWESOME, but there are a ton of great weapons and items you can get your hands on. The physics system is pretty great (try blowing up a building and watching how convincingly it crashes down before eventually settling), though occasionally weird (i can kick a dumpster 20 feet but my tank can’t plow down a tree?).
yeah sounds like a sleeper. i gotta wait for it to go down a bit in price seeing how i just got resident evil 4 yesterday. if you got a gamecube i recommend that you get that also if you can. a rare example of a game exceeding the hype.
