Brother: 500 miles
Parents: 900 miles
Sister: 5,000 miles
These figures are complicated by the fact that I’m actually 431 miles away from myself right now.
Almost all of my family, except for an uncle in Arizona, is in the Chicago area. Far enough away that they wouldn’t think of dropping in unexpectedly - besides which they know I would rip them a new one if they did drop in without calling first.
Immediate family? That would be my parents and 2 of my brothers up in Chattanooga, about 100 mies away.
Related people who I rarely talk to? My aunt, uncle and cousin. Aunt and Uncle live about 5 minutes away, I think. Have spoken with Aunt once since I moved to Atlanta. A year ago. Not that I don’t like them-I do, really. We just rarely talk. But I know if I needed something, if there was an emergency, I could call them.
I’m in Richmond, VA. My sister is in Portland, OR.
It’s almost far enough.
(Interesting how some people measure distance in miles/kilometers, other in time. Not to hijack the thread.)
Now that I’m “grown up” I have moved approximately 20 miles away from my parents…
But when I was growing up, our nearest relatives were ~800 miles away. We didn’t see them very often.
Dad, Brother, Grampa, aunts & uncles & cousins: 1945 miles
(Juneau to Minneapolis)
Sister, Brother-in-law, nieces and nephews: 2622 miles
(Juneau to Nashville)
I think I’ve got an aunt in San Diego - 1936 miles
That wins the prize so far. I’m in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico right now. The family is about 6,000 miles (or 4 days ) away.
Brother is in his room. Dad is in his room. Mom is in the kitchen.
Grandparents? Across the road.
Closest aunt and uncle? Next door.
We’re a close-knit family.
The one who lives farthest from us (in Western Pennsylvania) would be my cousin Tammy, who is stationed in Germany.
I’m in downstate (Long Island)New York.
Grandmother: 30 minutes away
Father: Next door
Aunt +Uncle-2 hours
Grandfather-7800 miles.
Slight difference.

Mom and brother both live in the next town south (about 10-12 miles) and dad lives about 10-12 miles further than that.
The first set of relatives live 180 miles away, while the second set live 3000 miles away. sigh
I’m in Sweden, my closest relatives are in Singapore, but my family is Australia (east coast). Unless counting my Cousins Cousins Cousin, he lives 100km away. That’ll change in a month though.
I’m in S. Korea, Dad’s in Wyoming, USA, and all of my bros and sisters are on the east coast of the US (can’t get much farther than that, and stay on the same planet!!)
Happy news is that I’m going to the US in 2 days to spend X-mas with everyone!! Wooo Hoooooooo!!!
Me: Mississippi.
Dad: South Carolina.
Cousins, great aunts, etc: Kentucky.
In-laws: two houses up.
