For those of you who don’t live with your parents - how far away did you move from them? If your parents are still alive, how far away from them are you?
I thought it’d be fun to try to find the Doper who’s moved the farthest away from his/her parents.

I’m about a 15 minute drive. Being the first poster, that puts me in the lead.
Probably when I lived in Germany and they were in Alaska, about 4700 miles as the crow flies.
That reminds me, fifty-six is in Antarctica.
2900 miles or so according to Google maps.
About 10,000 miles. (Florida to Australia.)
My peak was 10,114 miles between Sacramento and a small town in South Africa, and I spent a few years between 6,000 and 8,000 away. Now I’m a measly 2,380 miles away…practically next door.
According to a distance calculator it is currently 18807 km (11686 miles), from New Zealand to France.
18,880km from Christchurch, New Zealand, to where I currently live in the North West of England. 11,731.5 miles.
Google maps says it is 1,224 miles from Benton city Washington to Albuquerque New Mexico, where I currently live.
Can’t compete with others in the thread, but I have moved 2250 km from where I was born & raised. My parents have divorced and moved from there, too, so if you average their distances from me, it’s 2940 km; treble that would be about right. My poor husband (whose family is a great deal saner) is 7435 km from where he grew up.
If it exists, my stepfather is in Hell and I am in Portland, the Beer Capitol.

Ya beat me by a few miles - my family was in Illinois and I headed off to Berlin the day after I graduated college.
Ironically, right now I am about 15 minutes’ drive from where I grew up. But my parents are no longer with us.
I haven’t left South Florida, but my parents moved to San Francisco, which is about 2500 miles away.
They’ve since moved back, and are now about a 10 minute drive away.
My parents are about 40 miles away. In different directions, though, having divorced a few decades back.
They live roughly 40 miles away.
Using my father (and about time the old bastard was useful for something) to get the furthest distance:
8874.3 miles give or take.
I don’t know if it counts, but I stayed where I was raised, Ontario, and my surviving parent moved to BC, about 5000 km away.
Actually, about the same here, now that I think of it. I lived in Uganda, which is about 9800 miles from Anchorage.
