I’m living in the same house I grew up in. My parents retired and moved to the coast a few years ago, at the same time as I was looking for a house, so now my girlfriend and I rent from my parents. We sleep in the same room I slept in for the first 17 years of my life. Kind of weird, but it’s a situation that works well all round – cheap rent for us, and extra income for my folks.
I grew up in WI. After high school I joined the USAF and spent the next 4 yrs living at least 2000 miles and at most 10,000 miles from home. After the military I moved to a college town 15 miles from home and attended college (duh) for the next five yrs. Now I live about 200 miles from home.
About 8 miles.
After getting my degee, I was offered a job in my home town but didn’t want to stay there at age 22. A year and a half later, I was about to get married and got the same job offer and had a totally different outlook because it was and is a great place to raise a family. Now that my kids are grown, I’m getting an itch to get away, but with my parents getting to the age where they need some help, I doubt that I will.
Raised (mostly) in Chagrin Falls, Ohio - 350 miles away. High school was only 35 miles from here, though… we were part of the Rust Belt Exodus.
But I am by far the closest to “home” - Mom and Sister are in Tucson and Brother is near Seattle.
I was raised on the NW side of Houston, and now go to the University of Houston about a minute south of downtown. I am a grand 24 miles from home, give or take due to different routes.
It wasn’t my first choice, but they gave me a nice scholarship and it had the most diverse academics in texas (that wasn’t UT). It was also a research university, and in a large city, both very important to me. Plus, I can go home for a few hours to beg for money and do laundry! (and get away from my absolutely horrible roommate and slob suitemates, but thats a different story)
It’s apparently 6552 miles (10543 km) between San Francisco and Plovdiv. I actually live about an hour and a half north of Plovdiv, but that’s probably pretty close.
From where I was born and lived until age 4, 20km.
From where we moved when I was 4 and my mother and brothers still live, 120km.
The farthest I’ve lived is about 5000km away
Within a kilometre of my original childhood home (birth to age 15), and less than two kilometres from the house my parents still live in.
I was born in Yorkshire and spent two years there, then about six years near Manly on the Sydney northern beaches, then 12 years in Canberra (where the rest of my family still live). I am now in far western Sydney so it varies a lot.
I live in the same town (Hastings, Victoria, Australia) I was born in. I’ve lived in the same town all my life, with the exception of a couple of years spent living on University campus (Bundoora) about 100 kilometres away.
MrNinevah was born in Papakura, New Zealand. His family flitted between Australia and New Zealand for a few years before settling in Scoresby in Victoria (about 50 kilometres from he now lives - Hastings).
I live 500ish miles from the home land and I can say that it is a good distance. They are close enough to see for major events and far enough that I don’t have to go for minor events.
