How far do you live from where you grew up?

I alternate between 50 miles and zero feet. Spend time in “My” house and the house I grew up in.

The two are completely different. One is a beautiful mountain hidaway and the other is a desert drylake bed.

About 15km. My family home was in the northern suburbs of Sydney. I’m just a bit closer to the city now.

Upstairs - (Kittenblue still has me beat though). I live in my grandparents’ old apartment by myself, I pay rent to my father. My Mom and sister live an hour an a half away in Lakehurst, NJ. My best friends moved to Reeders PA and White River Junction VT. Call me a homebody, but I have good memories of here.

Really? Same here, by the Menomonee River and Mount Mary.

I’ve lived in 6 houses in my life; all but one of them have been extremely close together – you could put a point on the map and draw a two-mile circle to cover them all. I’ve been to many places in Florida, and I think this is the only one (except maybe Miami) where I could live.

The 1st house was where I came home to from the hospital, but we left there when I was just under 3 years old.

I grew up in southern CT and now live in the SF Bay Area in CA. So, I’ve moved quite aways.

I currently live 20 miles from where I grew up. In fact, this is only the second place I’ve ever lived.

I currently live 3.25 miles from the house I grew up in. I spent 14 years in my parent’s home growing up and a short time after the Navy and I have been in my current home for 5+ years.

About 7 minutes’ walk from my parents’ place. Less than 1 km. They’re still there, too.

I was in a military family growing up and had lived in 9 different places by the time I graduated from high school (10 counting the place my parents moved immediately after I graduated), so there’s no real answer. My “comfort zone” in the US, though, is the East Coast – most of our State-side assignments were here, and my parents are both from here (though from vastly different parts), and I haven’t strayed too far from that zone.

I live about 130 miles from where I grew up and I’m the one that lives closest in my family! My other siblings are in the several hundreds and even thousands.

Gogle Earth tells me I live approximately 4000 miles away (as the crow flies) from where I grew up .

Living in Smyrna, TN right now, grew up in Halifax, England.

Born in Ft Sill, OK and lived there a couple of years, moved to Springfield, OR for a year while my Dad went to Vietnam. Spent the years 1967-1970 in Germany, then came back to the states. Lived in Ft Lewis, WA for 2 1/2 years and then moved to Tacoma, WA.

Spent the years 1973 to 1983 in the same house in Tacoma, WA. Moved to two different apartments in the years 1983 to 1990 not far from the house I lived in Tacoma. In 1991, I moved to South Hill, WA which is approximately 10 miles from the house I spent most of my growing up years in.

My husband and I stay close to home because both of our mothers live not far from us and are alone. They are aging and have some health problems.

I don’t know…I lived in Eight different cities before i graduated from HS…went to 13 different schools K-HS (including 3 HS’s)…

For the record, I now live about 85 miles from Mom’s house…so I’ll use that as my answer.

6.85 miles, estimated travel time 16 minutes. does this make me a homeboy?

Mapquest tells me that driving distance is almost 640 miles. I’m trying to move closer, but that depends on jobs open in the general areas I’d like to be in.

2723 miles from the San Diego Naval Hospital to my home in Mechanicsville, MD - a mere 40 hours and 15 minutes. But I spent my formative years about 86 miles from here on Amuskai Rd in Baltimore county. My family moved from there in 1979, six years after I left home.

Straight-line distance, about 8,300 km (5,160 mi) from where I was born. I live in Japan now and was born and raised in California. The hospital isn’t there anymore or has been renamed, so that’s to the center of the city. I lived several different places growing up — from 1 to 8 hours driving distance away from where I was born — which is why I chose the birthplace route rather than picking an arbitrary “home”.

My parents live in the Boston area, having moved from central France (father, 3440 miles) and Washington State (mother, 2410 miles).

From Boston, I moved 6700 miles away to Tokyo.

I’m currently living about 10 blocks away from where I grew up, and where my parents still live.

I swore once I finished college and moved out that I would never endure that 1-1/2 hour commute each way into Manhattan again (the idea of leaving NYC didn’t really cross my mind, except for a few months when I was tempted to pull up and move out to San Francisco). I lived in several apartments in New Jersey, Manhattan and Brooklyn for a few years, and spent two years living in Baltimore with my wife when she got a (non-tenure track) post-doctoral position at Johns Hopkins…

…then, when I started shopping for enough space (a house or 2+ BR apartment) for a growing family, found the ol’ neighborhood the most attractive place after all. I could afford a 3BR house, see my family all the time (they watch the kids a fair amount), and the local schools are the among best in the city.
