How far do you & your sibs live from your parents (or you from your children)?

My parents have died; my husband’s parents live 18 miles away. We live in the same town with most of my siblings. The furthest sibling between my husband and I lives about 30 miles away.

My daughter is about to leave home for a job where she will be about 125 miles away. We’re going to miss her. Thank goodness for free Centennial cell-to-cell calling.

I currently live 1,597 miles from my whole family, although in a different country. My siblings would be a matter of 10 miles at most. A couple of years ago, I was 11,682 miles away. But that’s only to get revenge on my parents who variously lived between 5,560 and 14,211 km away.

Distance from my parents:
Me: 13.5 mi
Sibling A: I’m not sure where he’s living now.
Siblings B & D: 1.5 mi (across the street from each other)
Sibling C: 1375 mi
Sibling E: 3.5 mi
Sibling F: 720 mi

(All distances are approximate)

Me to parents: 2850 miles
Brother to parents: 15 miles
Dad to his late parents’ home: 10 miles
Mom to her mother: 45 miles

Distance to Mom
Me: 678 miles
Brother #1: 1,243 miles
Brother #2: 469 miles
Sister: About 10 feet.

Average: 796 miles (not including my sister)

Distance to Dad
Me: 135 miles
Brother #1: 1,243 miles
Brother #2: 1,107 miles
Sister: N/A (not her father)

Average: 828 miles

What I learned is that through an amazing coincidence, my eldest brother lives exactly equidistant (down to the exact mile!) from my parents, who themselves live 664 miles apart. Wow!

I’m around 1,700 miles from Mom (she’s in a different country). Little brother is about 1,600 miles from her (he’s less than 100 miles from me, by total coincidence). Distances to Mom are as the crow flies, using this distance calculator. It took a while to get the right city in the drop-downs; works better if you enter less information. Seems to work pretty well for distances outside the U.S.

Distances:

Me: 1750 miles
Sibling 1: 2600 miles
Sibling 2: 50 miles
Sibling 3: 10 miles

Average: 1102.5
Those two homebodies throw the whole thing off.

I don’t think that is really fair because most of us are referring to earth and living on terra firma. It sounds like you could decrease or increase that distance to anything you want with a simple orbital change.

I live about 130km from my mother.
My sister lives about 5km from my mother.
My brother lives about 200km from my mother.

I live about 8k away from mum by road, which’d probably be about 5-6k by road.

I live about the same distance away from dad.

My little bro lives in mum’s back yard.

According to Rand-McNally most of my family is between 575 and 650 miles away–they’re all in California, within a 150 mile radius of each other. My son is 2.3 miles from me and my daughter is exactly 5 miles away. We recently discovered the SO’s brother is in Utah, about 1020 miles. I suspect the SO’s opinion is “not far enough!”

Eight miles from my daughter, 1800 miles from my three boys.

My parents are dead. I’m not sure how many miles that is.

The RedSibs and I live 2127, 1155, 157, 430 and 5 miles from the parents, making for an average of 775 miles each. The one homebody kinda throws the average off.

Thanks for the tool, Voyager.
I live 348 miles from mom and 2310 miles from dad.
My sister lives 3409 miles from mom and 413 miles from dad.
The United States is big.
My brother lives very approximately 7400 miles from dad and 10000 from mom, which was probably about the distance he wanted when he moved there.

As the crow flies, my sister and I (we live in the same city) are 1689 miles (2719 km) from where our father lives. By road, we’re about 2000 miles.

At one time, I was living about 6 miles (10 km) away from Dad; while my sister was living 11261 miles (18123 km) away from us.

I live about 8125 miles from my parents and sibling.

I live a couple of miles from my parents, and my brother does too (imagine a triangle, ~2 miles on each side). My next brother lives 1,990 miles away, the youngest one is 183 miles, and my baby sister is 232 miles.

My husband lives 90 miles from his parents, and most of his siblings live in the same city as they do, except the one in Japan, who is a bit further away.

My brother and I live about a quarter mile distant on land that he and I co-own. We are about 12 miles from my mom’s place in town. Two of my kids still live with me, although one begins university next fall, so she’ll be about 30 miles away. My other two kids live in Savannah and in Anderson, SC, about 185 and 330 miles respectively.

I live 2566 miles from my parents and sisters. And they live in Canada. I am surprised to learn it takes about 38 hours to drive there.
