how far down IMDB's top 250 have you seen?

[url=http://www.imdb.com/chart/top]Here’s** IMDB’s list of the top 250 movies.

I’ve seen the first 36 of them but I’ve never seen #37, “The Pianist”.

Man I hate doing that

Here it is.

  1. I’ve never seen The Godfather.

I haven’t seen Shawshank Redemption.

Or Schindler’s List.

Or Citizen Kane.

From then on it gets really embarrassing.

I haven’t seen 189 of them.

Of the top ten, I’ve only seen five: 1, 4, 5, 7, 10.

and

and

Actually, Citizen Kane and Schindler’s List are two of my least favorite from the whole list.

I don’t even consider myself a big movie buff by the SDMB’s standard’s. Moreso than your average joe, though.

As part of my obsessive-compulsive movie project, I set out to watch the entire top 250 (and others). Of course, it has changed since my quest began. of the top 100, I haven’t seen:

  1. 8.5 Cidade de Deus (2002)
  2. 8.3 Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
  3. 8.2 Finding Nemo (2003)

… not too shabby.

I paid like $15 to see “City of God” in a special screening because I’d heard such awesome things about it. It is good.

I haven’t seen Eternal… either. Or “city lights” or a few others.

I have only seen two of the top 10 - and they are Casablanca (very good) and Star Wars, which I saw under protest when it was re-released a few years back. (Terrible film, as I suspected.)

I watch plenty of films, but come on - that top 10 ought to be named “Top 10 Films Voted For By Geeks And Weirdos”. Lord of the Rings? At numbers 3, 8 and 9? Do me a favour.

Is that the birtish translastion of “gimme a break.”

Regardless of whether they were voted on by geeks and weirdos, I’d suspect anyone with more than a passing interest in movies has seen the Godfathers and AT LEAST the first of the LOTR trilogy, if not all 3. I could see “Seven Samurai” tripping people up, but any regular movie-goer I know has seen Godfather and LOTR.

Maybe it’s different in the motherland, but Godfather is required viewing for males past the age of 18 here in the colonies.

I got 15 of the top 20, missing most of the older movies and Schindler’s List.

  1. City of God, was my first pure miss. I’ve also only seen bits and pieces of Casablanca. When I have more time later I’ll check how many I’ve seen total.

Yeah, that won’t stand the test of time.

I’ve only seen three of the top ten. I start missing at #2 - The Shawshank Redemption.

123 so far, and hopefully counting

101 was my downfall.

After that AFAICS I’m good except for 148 and 250. Don’t like Ingmar Bergman.

Not too shabby if I do say so myself.

I haven’t yet seen -

  1. 8.0 Dogville (2003)
  2. 8.0 Deer Hunter, The (1978) - have it from Netflix now.
  3. 8.0 Hable con ella (2002)

  28. 7.7 Persona (1966)
  29. 7.7 Henry V (1989)
  30. 7.7 Fanny och Alexander (1982)

Bringing the total unseen to 33 of 250.

The highest film on the list I haven’t seen is #111: Dogville (I’m running a little behind on this year’s movies).

Let’s see. My first miss is #6.

I’ve seen 21 of the top 25. 35 of the top 50. 68 of the top 100. Not too good, but not too bad either.

In the top 100, I’m only embarrassed about not having seen…
6. Seven Samurai
11. Citizen Kane
25. Amelie
36. To Kill A Mockingbird
40. Taxi Driver
43. Eternal Sunshine…
49. LA Confidential
81. Crouching Tiger…

Since it’s out on DVD now (June 8th) maybe you could rent a big screen. They did that when I was in college. I’m sure if costs more than $15, but if you got some other people to chip in… :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve seen 6 of the top ten. Of the remaining four, I have zero interest in the Godfather movies(but I’m female, so that’s okay), so that’s unlikely to change.

I’ve seen 31 out of the top 100, and 50 of the 101-250 movies. I think, I didn’t check every single one in another language. You know what, though? It’d be a lot easier to figure if they gave the English titles as well as the non-english ones. They have ample room to, after all.
